I need some help to extend my time online

A few months ago, I had to contact my ISP aout my internet disconnecting too often if I didn’t stay right at my computer most of the time. Their techie ran me through a procedure to go into the modem area somewhere in either internet explorer, or my control panel, to change the ‘run time’ setting, to where the cinnection would remain ‘constant.’ I have tried to figure out just what I did have to do to accomplish that, and am batting zero. Can someone here give me the directions for this proceedure? Thanks
