When I was driving into town today, I saw a boy cycling along looking very relaxed with his arms folded, consequently no hands on the handlebars. My first thought was 'that's nice, he looks so relaxed', then my next thought was 'what if he hit a bump or stone in the road?' I can remember trying this when I was a child (not in traffic) and I wobbled all over the place. I steered well clear of him just in case. Have you seen people doing that?

I not only have seen them, I am one. You learn to ride your bike and control it with your legs. I could ride down dirt/gravel roads for miles at a time with no hands on the handle bars. It is a matter of training yourself to do it, and then it is just like learning to ride a bike, and it feels totally natural. So don't worry, this boy probably could have handled a bump with ease. You can tell the people who are learning to do this, and yes, they are wobbly. It was very nice of you to steer clear however, I do that anyway because I would never want to hit a cyclist.

It's amazing the number of drivers who seem to totally ignore cyclists, as though they have no right to be there - it makes me very scared for cyclists.

No hands in driving a bike,In my opinion that is one kind of a skill, because It can be useful, one day when i was driving my motorcycle my helmet lose the lock and helmet covered my face i can't see the road, thanks that I can do no hands while driving so I can fix my helmet back! No hands save my life!

I've seen what you're talking about. Hopefully these people have fast reflexes and are able to get their handlebars quickly in the event of instability. I'm pretty sure my balance is not good enough to pull off such a feat. I'm also amazed at the people who can ride with someone sitting on their handle bars. Pretty sure I would crash if I tried this as well.
