In asian countries, asking about age and marital status is common and questions like these are not regarded as personal. However, having worked abroad and having westerners as my immediate superiors have somehow changed my orientation. Upon return to my country, I found it a bit annoying when people ask about my age and my marital status. When you ask them, "Why do you want to know?", they don't have a clue and insist on getting an answer. What should I say when I don't want to answer their question?

I think it is common in our part of country people to ask people what is a person's age and whether he or she is married or not. I think one of the reason is that most people wanted to start something to ask and that is the reason they ask. Most of them doesn't remember after couple of days what the person had said. I don't know what to say. I think you should just smile and say something and don't worry most people doesn't remember after couple of days what you had said.
