i have been out of the work field for nearly 5 years so don't know much about what's going on w/jobs & salaries. i know so many people are w/out jobs from plant closings etc. i feel it would really be hard to find a good job. i did hair for 47 years. when i had to quit work i was getting $12 for a haircut. my daughter-in=law has made a hairdresser since that time. somone ask her the other night how much she charged & she said $18. i was like wow!! she doesn't sit the prices, the owner of the shop does.

Yups! degree does matter a lot, according to me, but you can't put your qualifications aside. Both are required at their own place. All depends upon job to job, and job requirements. If any Company have a rule of not taking any Undergraduate as their employee, and still they find any Undergraduate with extra ordinary skills, and qualifications, they may change their policy for this particular employee.
Hence, experience, knowledge, interest, are more important then a Degree for any kind of job. May be they'll hire you with your knowledge and experience you have, even if you dont have a degree, but if you only have a degree and no interest, or knowledge, its tough for you to get a job.
I have seen this in my life till now, as a senior to me was just Undergraduate, but with vast grasping power and knowledge.

It seems like to me nowadyas if you don't at least have a degree, people won't even consider interviewing you, it depends if you are lucky or no to encounter a job opportunity that you do have the ability to handle the work...
Thanks for responding!:-)

Hello mermaidivy,
I don't really know about the market right now but I think due to the current situation, it is quite hard to find a job nowadays. I have been working for my present company for the past 10 years and when I first started, it was not me looking for a job - most came to me! I don't know now what kind of job I can find just using my bachelors degree.

It is really hard to get a good job these days. both my husband and i just have high school diplomas, and i am so glad that at our age it does not matter any more because we are close to retirement, and he will be able to work just as long as he wants to after that because we are in construction, and for that all you need are the right skills, and those you can not learn in a book... You learn them by doing.
In my opinion some of those companies that will not hire unless you have a collage education are being unfair, and i look at it as discrimination. Because books will only take you so far....even a doctor has to do a internship, which is hands on training, and ill bet they learn more doing that than they do in the class room.
