I read up on the Duggar family and I'm appauled! This family got help building their home from the Discovery Networks and corporate sponsors! The Duggers also claim they are debt free! They are because they got help with thier house! That's not all! They live off charies and donations that donate food to the family! That even goes for household appliances! That isn't right! This family was doing fine before the Discovery channels got involved! I don't think it is right! There are tons of other families that need help and aren't getting it! I think the Duggars are being selfish and should be ashamed of themselves! This one of the biggest reason why I don't like this family! Is there others people on Mylot feel the same way?

I'm not sure where you got your information from but every news article I've ever read on them, and there's been alot, say that they built their house on their own with only family members helping and that they live debt free and pay for everything with cash...they don't believe in credit cards. They also have homeschooled all of their children, have sent the older ones on to college and have the money set back to send the younger ones on to college. I've never seen anything about getting donations or assistance. It's suppose that it's possible that Discovery channel, they were supposed to be doing an in-depth story on the family, has paid them or given them things for their home and/or kids...no different then anyone else they've done a show on. As for the number of kids they have, as long as they can support them and are taking care of them, more power to them. The ones I object to are those that sit at home, popping one after another out and leaching off public aid. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Why they have so many children isn't really hard to understand. They are a very religous family that believes that every baby is a gift from God...therefore if they take birth control then they are in a sense refusing God's gifts. They feel that as long as they are able to have children and provide for them and God wants to bless them with another they will continue to have them. Your right in that it isn't very common to have such a large family which is why the Discovery channel wants to do a show on them...maybe to help others who have children see how it can be done. While it's not for everyone, if their happy and their kids are happy...I don't see a problem. All of their kids are educated and attend (or will attend) college, they each play a musical istrument (piano, violin, ect), they have daily prayer and the older kids learn about child rearing by helping with the younger kids. They have a website that you might want to take a look at...it tells about the family, the kids, their home, their daily life, and about their finances. The link is http://www.duggarfamily.com/ ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

I still have trouble with this family being debt free and not getting any help from the TLC! If they aren't good for them! I know the parents don't believe in birth control and that is why they have 18 kids and probaly will have more! I understand that but it is rare to hear about huge families like this now a days and they are doing it with out help! I'm trying to comprehend this story but I don't know if ever will fully!

yup, that doesnt suprise me at all! it is sort of like jon and kate plus 8. both these families have seemed to somewhat scam or at the very least, manipulate the system to their own benefit. i dont like either family much.

I figured Jon and Kate where bucking the system too! I only watch their show a few times. That was too many times! I think Kate is a *itch and Jon is a hand pecked husband! I only saw the episode of the Duggars when they where building their huge home! Right away I felt they wera allready bucking the system! Both families should be a shamed of themselves!

I really love how people run off at the mouth without being aware of what they are talking about. The Duggars house was bought and paid for before their tv show ever came along. It took three years for them to build their house because they paid for it little by little. They buy their own groceries. All their clothes are bought at second hand thrift stores. The duggars do NOT depend on handouts.

Hello everyone, I read about the family and I watched the show. I also read what you all have written here. All, I do have to say,"This family has taken care of their own with love and a deep devotion to GOD and all the kids are well-mannered.I have seen may couples and single parents with only one or two kids and have no control over them. This couple has 18 children and they are doing a job so well it is putting the rest of us to shame. I do believe that the saying is, "Those in glass houses should not throw stones!" Maybe, you should look not only at how this family is raising their children but how a lot of you are not and should be. **Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life**

If you knew anything about the family, you'd know that they do not rely on handouts or charitable contributions. They bought and paid for everything themselves. I'm sure that they've gotten some sort of stipend for having their family on TV all the time, but they are not nearly the media wh0res that John and Kate + 8 are. Jim Bob used to be in Congress I believe and made their money the old fashioned way: They worked. Michelle has a realtor's license and was a realtor before having her children. Jim Bob also has a realtor's license and buys and sells properties also. I find the family fascinating. I deal with juveniles all day long as I'm a juvenile intake officer and it's a breath of fresh air to see ANYONE raise one kid let alone 18 to have not one single one of them in trouble with the law, pregnant or on TV flashing their business for money. I love how they raise their children to be good, Christian people with high moral values and good hearts. The oldest, Josh, and his bride Anna are expecting the Duggar family's first grandchild and I wish all of them the best. So no I don't feel this way.

"Using the system" I only have a problem with welfare mothers having 10 kids by 9 different fathers and make more in one month off welfare and food stamps than I do in 6 months WORKING full time.
