Hello, I would like to tell you guys about my experience today. I went to a small store to buy some vegetable and meat for today, the total amount is RMB5.6, and I gave her a piece of 50, instead of change me 44.4, she change me 94.5. If I accept, that means I earn 50, and she loss 50. I know that I was given more money only after I arrived my house. and I haven't return back the money yet. What will you do if you were me?

Even that's my only money. I will still return the money back to the cashier. simply she made a mistake. she's only an employee would suffer the consequence of that and not the owner. some say money is evil but to me the person owning that money is evil because she has the control over it.

yes, you are right, 50 rmb may means a day's income for her. But what I am worrying is not that she will lose her today's income, I care whether they will reganize me the next time I buy something there. and ask me to return, that is really embarassment.

I would go back to the store and return the money. Otherwise I would feel like a thief.

If you feel that way, I would not worry about it all. That could get her fired for stealing though, and it would be her mistake yes. But we are human and we all make mistakes, it is an act of great kindness to correct mistakes, especially ones in this area. But if your conscience will let you rest easy. And I saw in your other post that you are only worried about her recognizing you. When I have gone back to return money, they generally don't even realize they have made the mistake. So you probably don't have to worry about that, especially if it is a busy store. More worried about getting caught...

Thanks for writing back again. you almost recall my conscience, I surely will return the money back to her. I don't want to feel guilty the next time I am buying something from there of course. The reason why I didn't return the money the moment I know it, is because that I have to hurry to my office afterward. I buy food in the morning when I am doing morning running, and cook them in the evening. But I think I won't be able to return the money until tomorrow morning, when I am running and pass by the store.

That happened to me a couple of times. I always give back the excess in my change. Because the cashiers are the one to pay the loss that she incurs. And I don't want that to happen to her. Hope you did the right thing. :)
