I have a dilemma that I need advice on. Here it is................ My Aunt built a house next door to us. She was supposed to move into it. She ended up being diagnosed with Schizophrenia etc... She could move in after going through treatment and getting on meds, but she doesn't want to. We are her DPOA's. She has lived with us for the past year. Our dilemma is, her house and our house are the ONLY two houses in our little "compound". We have a 1400 foot driveway. We have a very nice, private domain. Our concern is, if she ever ended up needing a nursing home, could they take her property to use as payment??? Should she, sell us her house so that if she ever had to go in anywhere we wouldn't lose our privacy? We take care of EVERYTHING for her as it is and don't want to end up losing her house if anything happened. I hope someone out there can help. Please don't reply if your not POSITIVE of your answer. Thank you

What I would do is contact a lawyer. Most lawyers give you free consultations for the first visit. That way you know where you stand and what you should do. It is a very serious concern and I don't blame you for being worried. I hope you do this to ease your mind. This kind of situation is very stressful.
