Oh...it is interesting. Hi Cieldz, where are you from? We also have some believes regarding ghosts. 1. If a dog makes a particular sound in the middle of the night, he saw a ghost. 2. Ghosts stay in a particular type of tree (Pala)in South Indian. So, you are not supposed to go out in night if you have that tree around your place. Lol. Do you have any other believes related to ghosts?

What about using an itchy powder on your left palm so that you will be scratching it whole and will get more money in the days to follow! We have a belife that if a glass gets broken in the morning then somethig bad will certainly happen in the remaining of the day. So, we are very cautious with glasses in every morning. I think this way we can preserve our glass vessels. Right now I can recall only this. We have many!

My mum is a strong believer in it. I don't seems to believe in those funny beliefes. One thing I like the most is that to eat sweet curd before going for a good or noble cause!

We also have some believes related to curd. We believe that mangoes produce a lot of heat. So, we are supposed to have curd or some dishes with curd on the same day we have mango. There is also a belife that giving curd to somebody in the morning gets you bad luck. Lol. Do you have any other believes related to curd?

We also believe that is it bad luck when you break a glass. It is also considered as bad luck to keep broken glass in house or look in broken glass because we think that broken glass will produce negative energy.

This discusion is very interesting dalia. I'll just list down a few i remember (I'm from South India too and my husband is very very superstitious) - 1. According to my husband wearing a black undergarment wards off eveil for him! 2. Before they leave their house they will wait for the right person to cross them. Like a widow, or a single brahmin crossing them is considered unauspicious (I personally hate this becoz how can a person affect you day!^$#%^^*&) 3. 3 is considered very unlucky. You should not buy anything in 3, 3 ppl travelling is considered a bad omen, you should not gift anyone anything that is 3 like 3 bangles, etc, etc! 4. If you keep two brooms together then you will for sure have a baby girl (my MIL believes that!) 5. Men inthe house are not supposed to clean their plates (thats my MIL's addition!) 6. Women should not go out after 6 inthe evening, that brings ill luck! 7. We indian's, especially south indian, treat tuesdays and fridays as very special days of everyweek. So we are not supposed to shave, remove cob webs, cut nails on these days. 8. Taking head bath with oil on Mondays means you are insulting Lord Shiva (that's my mom's favorite) 9. Anything that you do on saturday, good or bad, repeats during the next week. (I love this - i always try new cloths on saturday and believe it or not i end up geting/buying a new dress by next saturday!) 10. Do not pay anyone on friday or else you end up draining your whoel saving! What i believe is that most of such beliefs was created to simply create a discipline in the olden times. But they have actually influnced our mind. Have you anytime felt doing the opposite of what you are told (like cutting your nails on a friday and then feeling guilty about it, pondering over your mistake and finally you end up doing some stupid and you have an incident to blame! Rather than building a strong society these personally have weakened individual minds and people strickly abide by them just to avoid trouble. Even those who dont actually believe in many such things fall victims to it simply because of their up bringing. I'll surely add a few more to the list once i recall them :)

of course there are a lot of funny things to talk about here in our country like for example the foods ...some areas/location here in our country do not eat this kind of food..and some part will be said to be be their favorite..like the following most often people here in our place eat flowers of gumamela, ricefield rats, flower of vegetables, cassava leaves and skin of banana..this sound so weird and it's a lot funny for most people who learn that there are creatures on earth eating a kind of food like this.

Here's a few more funny beliefs from the Philippines. 1. Don't sweep the floor at night, it's akin to sweeping the luck out of your house. 2. Don't trim your fingernails at night, it will cause misfortune to your family. 3. When someone sneezes when you are about to leave the house, wait for a few minutes before leaving as it's a sure sign of badluck. There's a lot more, but most of them are similar to some other's beliefs as well.

Oh...really? It is so funny. Which country does this belief exists? We have a belif regarding marriage. If a maiden wait for a long time after eating food without cleaning her hands, her marriage will get late. (In India, people eat with hands and the hands will all be filled with food remains after eating). There is also one more belief related to marriage. If a maiden eats a double banana (two bananas sticked together) she will give birth to twins. Lol. Thanks for the response.

Hi daliaj 1 If your ears are itchy then someone is talking about you right for spite left for love 2 If your left palm itches then you will pay out some money. 3 If your right palm itches then you will receive money. 4 A loud unexpected sneeze by yourself and you will soon have an argument. 5 Spiders will only live in a happy home. Funny beliefs yes but they help keep families together. As my mother used to say.

oooh.. we have lots of that in the Philippines like... 1. Giving of "arinola" (chamberpot) as wedding gifts will give the newlyweds good luck. 2. You should open all your doors and windows during New Year's Eve to let in good luck. 3. If you get a fish bone stuck in your throat, you should stroke it with a cat's paw to loosen the bone. 4. If you see plastic flying in the air, you should catch it to make you strong. 5. If lightning strikes a tree, you should get the "Eye of the Lightning" at the top of it to make you stronger. 6. If you're sweeping at night, you should say excuse me to the spirits you might be hitting.

Dear friend, There are lots of funny belief but apart from this I feel the law here in our country that is age old, that too very old during the Britishers colonial rule is still continuing especailly the family law in India. Here it is seen that the father do not have any right to be with his childern particularly if he has a girl child or he has produce solid proof of that the person whom he married is either have mental problem or illegal affairs. But the father has to give the remmuneration and expenses of the child and his wife. But very rarely allows to see his childern. May be it is really funny for me who has faced this funny law.

I think this is a very interesting and curious post. I like to know more about other countries traditions. Like some of you, we also say that if your hand is itching, you will get large amounts of money, probably winning some lottery or similar. The one I wanted to mention is that if you have a whistling sound in your ear, someone is talking about you. When kids, we used to count start saying the alphabet and stop at the letter when the whistling sound stops. Then whichever letter you stop at, you should think about a person's name you know that starts with that letter and probably that person would be the one talking about you.
