Recently I came across an Ice-cream type which read as Icecream for Diabetics. I was very much eager to have a taste of it. But to my disappointment and surprise, the Icecream was Salty and a bit Spicy too. I have experience this kind of Icecream in the City of Mumbai in India. I still wonder how an Icecream could be enjoyed if it is salty and spicy? Had anyone experienced the similar situation of mine?

A few months ago I got the information that there are icecreams and sweets which are designed for diabetic patients. That is a good news. He said that they are common in America, but I don't think they are common in India. My husband and I started discussing about this when we saw two types of sugar in cafe coffee day. There is one type of sugar for diabetic people. I don't think these kind of sweets and icecream are there in Kerala. Let me know if anybody knows where I can get them. My uncle is a diabetic patient, but he is very fond of sweets. He somtimes steals sweet from home and have it, later my aunt will find out it is missing. I want to get some ice cream and sweet of this kind for my uncle.

Well I saw an Ice cream shop at Purasaiwakkam near Perambur which offered Ice-cream for Diabetics and the rate of that Ice cream is around Rs.60/-. Although i have never tasted that one but many says that the taste of those ICE-CREAMS are not that good as the Regular ones and one of my friends told that Sugar Free Ice-cream tastes like Gelusil(a digestion tablet). Hence I never took any chances of tasting Sugar Free ice-cream.

Yes, unfortunately there is no Ice-creams and sweets being prepared for the diabetic patients in Kerala. But sweets could be prepared by using a certain type of Glucose family( I do not know its chemical name exactly) which is available especially for diabetic patients. It contains the same taste of sugar but the only advantage is the sweetness wont be absorbed by the body and it is just being used for its taste. So your uncle can enjoy sweets that is being made out of that chemical. Even Sugar fee and other non diabetic sweetners use that chemicals. Although they are a little costlier than the SUGAR we buy, but still if you are a ardent lover of sweets, then I could suggest your uncle to go for that. Regarding ICE-CREAMS, well....... If your uncle is an Ice-cream lover, he need to travel all way to chennai for icecream. Lolz...:)

Ice-cream for diabetics are simply Sugar-free ice creams. I don't know if you have it in your place, but the popular brand in the Philippines for sugar free ice cream is either BTIC (Better than Ice Cream) which is actually Frozen Yogurt and offers sugar-free products; or FIC (Fruits in Ice Cream) which also offers sugar-free flavors. I have not tasted any salty and spicy ice creams before. And I'm not really excited to taste on in the future! I just want to warn you that most sugar-free products have aspartame instead (just like Coke Zero and Pepsi Max) - they may not raise your blood sugar level, but is equally harmful to your health. Thanks for the response on my discussion :)

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Ginger is one of the spices that would be added in that one. Other spices like Pepper, cardamom too would be added to make it much more spicer. In India, the regular diet itself includes some spicy food and hence ginger alone would not satisfy the people who expect spicy food and hence some more spices have to be added. In India, Ginger is mainly used for the purpose of Digestion as Ginger contains very good digestive enzymes which is abasolutely necessary for the proper functioning of the digestive systems in our boday and it actually acts as a catalyst.

That would be good for my mother in law who is a diabetic. But I can't imagine myself eating a salty and spicy ice cream. I really might not be able to swallow it.

It is really astonishing to hear from you about this salty ice-cream. I just can't imagine how it would have tasted. Well, I am also a resident of India, but nowhere nearer to Mumbai. In my city, I don't find any such salty ice-cream. Also, being a diabetic does not need you to take some salty ice-cream. Now a days, ice-creams are being made from artificial sweeteners that can be consumed by diabetics without any problem. I am really excited to taste such an Ice-cream.

Yes it is. I was very much surprised to taste such an Ice-cream but I tasted that a kinda Ice-cream like that is the fact. I have been to Mumbai on a vacation once and at that time this happened. But please do not get excited. Once you taste such a kind of Ice-creams, then for the next 2 months you would never feel like tasting an Ice-cream at all. Hence please stay away from these kinda stuffs.

Yuck...salty ice cream? That just isn't right. Ice cream is a good thing and it meant to be sweet tasting not salty or spicy. I have never had ice cream that is salty although I have had diabetic sugar free ice cream but it wasn't salty. A lot of the sugar free diabetic foods have that bland taste but most of them you can just add a packet of sweet and low and it flavors it right up for you.
