keeping cats

I read a discussion on the cats subject and it made me feel so bad that I just couldn't answer it. But I think I have to say something about this. I work in rescue of animals and the way that some people treat their animals is enough to make you want to do them harm. Cats are especially treated badly. It is so easy to have more cats than you can properly care for but it is also easy to keep them under control. If you have so many cats that you don't notice one who's health is failing you have to many. If a cat has failing health find out why, take it to the Vet if you can't tell what is wrong. It may be expensive to take to the Vet but a sick animal can infect the rest of your animals and then you have even more expense. Please if you take on the responsibility of an animal live up to it and do what you need to do to give it a good life, if you can't find it another home. I have never been unable to place a healthy cat if I just tried. Neuter and spay your animals, there are many places that have programs which will help you pay the price if you ask. Love your animals and you will be loved in return. blessings

I have started a thread about cats - which does not speak about the nice part of keeping up with cats - but I hope that hasn't offended you in any way. I do love animals and pets and actually am very angry at people who leave them to roam about. After all a pet is a responsibility. Fortunately I do think that many people love their animals and like they say, a pet is for life.

Hi savypat, Thank you for starting this discussion, the things you say here need to be said. I have two cats and it's very true that when you love them you will be loved in return. I hate to think of an animal being ill treated but know that it does happen. Please everyone take good care of your pets. Blessings.

Thank you savypat. You have expressed my feelings very well. I am a lover of all animals especially cats, they are my favourite pet and I have two who are treated like precious children. It is beyond me how some individuals can have a huge number of cats that are not properly cared for or de-sexed. How can they be so cruel? I don't even let mine outside because I care for them and the bird life so much! If you are unable to take care of animals or pets aren't your thing, DON'T GET ANY! I have known people who have cats and all they do is stick a bowl of food outside and they have no interaction or contact with the animal so they are completely unaware of the cat's health! Sorry, I'm ranting now...It just infuriates me how beautiful creatures can be so mistreated! Keep up your great work!

in the country where i come from, cats are not treated well...how unfortunate!!!!!!..i feel really sad about this...i have cats...i just adore them...here..they love dogs more over cats...well.dogs are also cute..and besides we should love all animals...but i hust hope that my countrymen should stop maltreating cats...if only i could put p a cat center..i would really do it..this is one of my dreams....elusive though..because up to now i havent been able to do a lot for my feline friends....im hoping that they realize the charm of these lovable creatures of God!

Well said savypat, I couldn't agree with you more or said it better myself :) That is why we only have one pet at a time because we feel that we can't take on anymore! Especially if the pet were to get sick we can only afford 1 vet bill nevermind 5 or 6. We have a cute little shih-tzu named Katie and she is a very important part of our family :) I really admire you for working with sheltered animals, I would love to do something like that, but our city shelter has enough volunteers and employees so I have been told anyhow!
