May be Dhoni is a successful Captain and Bhajji a rising star but it doesnt mean that they can insult the Prestigious National award. If Dhoni and Harbhajan are that much desperate in Spending time with their families, then why not they skip first few matches in IPL. It's the Money that matters for them and not the Nation. Such a selfish attitude needs strict action. Last year when the same award was conferred on Sachin, even admist his hectic shcedules he never failed to attend the award ceremony. Sachin is a sportsman of better stature than the fame to these selfish two combined. This shows that Sachin is a true "GENTLEMAN" whereas these two are Money-thirsty Morons.

Hi vinslounge, personally I like both Dhoni and Harbhajan. But,surely not attending th Padma awards despite staying in your country is not going to add any feather to their caps. What Sachin did was the right thing to do.But,they are young,I hope someday they understand the values of these awards.

Hi bumba, ya as you said Sachin did the very correct thing. But Dhoni and Bhajji are not kids in not understanding about the National awards. Even an eighteen year old boy knows the value of Padma awards and these two are Big and responsible enough to know what padma award means to them actually. It's the money that Blinds them and it is an unpardonable incident. They ahve insulted the nation and there is no valid reasons for them to justify their absence from the award ceremony.

Main thing is that if you are International star then there is no meaning of National award for you. Even in my opinion these awards are biased.

Hi Neerajpandey, you are correct. These awards are sometimes biased. But it doesn't mean that you can skip those award ceremonies. Biasing is everywhere right from the Oscars to to any awards. Dhoni and Bhajji have become International stars because of a nation and they should not forget that. If they are concerned only about International events, then there is absolutely no necessity for them in playing the Domestic league called IPL. Even Sachin is an International star. But he knew how to respect our National Awards and he attended it inspite of his hectic schedules.

The Padma Shri is conferred by the President of India( The President is constitutionally the most important person in the country, and is the first citizen of the country!!!). This example shows that respect is earned not only by your talent, but also by your actions and etiquette. Dhoni is a snob, and Harbhajan a bigger snob. Even in cricketing skills, Saching surpasses Dhoni by a mile. According to me, action should be taken against these 2 "heroes", they should definitely be taken to task!!!!

You have nailed the point sarkar. Yes, they must be taken into task. Big money have blinded those fools.

Some people may disagree with me but I don't feel anything prestigious about this award. Maybe I am saying it because I won't ever get one. But I have heard that the committee who makes the selection is biased. On the funnier side, I could actually go to accept the award because I have never been to New Delhi.

I agree with you. At least they must have given some kind of information. I must also add that Dhoni and Bhajji did not let us down even if you feel that they had been selected that way.

Hi swapan, from Oscars to local school awards, Biasing is a common issue. But it doesn't mean that you need not attend them. If Bhajji and Dhoni are unable to attend the ceremony, then they must have informed about their unavailability long before. They also must understand it is the same biasing and other stuffs that had brought them into the team.

Why so much hype if Dhoni & Bhajji did not attend the awards ceremony? Did they ask the Government to confer them with the award? Did the Government ask them to be present at the time of the awards ceremony? Even Ajmal Kasab can get the "Padma Shri".Vinslounge you can also get the award if you give some money. So why blame on Dhoni & Bhajji? They have been playing for the country almost non stop. They also have near & dear ones. They also are human beings. They also like to spend some time at home. So its not a big issue as all make it.

Hi Krupesh, If you can get the awards by giving money, then you and I might have got some plentiful awards long back. If you are a recepient of a State or National award, then it goes without saying that you need to attend that ceremony. If you think that even Kasab could get the "Padma shri" award, I doubt whether you knew what Padma shri is all about!! To your Kind notice, these awards are conferred on you automatically and not by you asking them to award you those honours. If Dhoni and Bhajji have near and dear ones then why not they intimate about their unavailability to the government at the earliest? Did they do that? No they did not. If they wish to be with their near and dear ones at Home, then why not they skip the first few matches in IPL. They are just lured by the money. What had happened to the near and dear ones now? Take the example of Sachin Tendulkar. Irrespective of his packed hectic schedule, he made it to the padma award ceremony. That shows the difference between a 'Gentleman' and 'Morons'.

The procedure is that home ministry sends letters to all the recipients if they are willing to accept the award or not. So Harbhajan and Dhoni would have agreed to accept so there name figured in list. Ya they have done lot for country, but they should have attended those awards or have said that they didn't want at the moment were asked by ministry, so that awards had gone to our olympic medal winners, and i am sure they know better than our cricketers how to respect such national awards.

Now I doubt how much you know about Indian Politics. First of all who selects the Awards?Who are the jury for this?Who appoints these juries? You just go through all these & judge for yourself how important the politicians play a role in these awards. Did Dhoni & Bhajji ask for the awards? It was conferred to them.Did they agree that they would be present at the awards ceremony? If really they had agreed they would not have back tracked. Its just the media hype that people like you make a bigger issue.Instead of pointing fingers at Dhoni & Bhajji see other things like corruption & the like which is ruining India. Dhoni & Bhajji have done a lot for India. They have earned the award. There might be so many reasons for them not to attend. You dont know nor I know. Its better not to talk unnecessarily against them. Hope you got my point?

I am also feeling bad as a Indian citizen that they behaved like this in our country, I was not expecting from Dhoni. Now many player play for money only, I don't know that when Dhnoi got lots of money through multiple way, & still he will get, So he skipped Padma shree award. How 1 man is hungry for money? They ahould respect our country.
