Why should we join a social community like facebook?

Friends are friends because we met them, interacted with them..and there are those that we saw or met online. sometimes we chat using instant messengers, send emails, call, send text messages.. why is there really a need to maintain an account in an online social community such as facebook??or why do we really sign up for these sites?most friends in our friends list are people we see everyday, classmates, officemates, family, neighbors... isn't having physical friends better? isn't it taxing to maintain such accounts, upload photos, post comments, and you'll always be driven to make better and better because your friends have tons of photos and friends and you only have a handful..and your not even photogenic or tech-savvy.. i just wonder..i need opinions..is it vanity to maintain an online social account?

I use facebook as you can contact all your friends at one time which can be really handy also you can see what they have been upto and check out photos of what they have done. Its a good way of keeping in touch with those people you dont see everyday.

I use facebook to keep in touch with friends that go to a different school than me or move out of the state. It is so much easier to talk to them. When they come into town I hang out with them in person. It's really not a big deal to put up pictures and comment. It only takes a couple minutes. I honestly don't care how many photos I have up. The last one I added was my birthday in October. It's not a competition to who puts up the most pictures or who comments the most or who has the best and coolest pictures. It's just to keep people in touch with each other.

Maintaining a online social account I wouldn't say is vanity, but facebook to me is like the news if you will, it tells me what my friends are up too and wheather or not they are happy or unhappy. This may seem pointless but when a friend is upset and they try and bottle it up, it helps me comfort them and make them feel better. Also facebook is fun as it has games, and by uploading photos to facebook to me it makes me treasure and feel proud of both the pictures which i took, and also I see my pictures more regulary, for instance sometimes you take pictures and look at them once or twice however having them on facebook, allows me easy access to them and allows friends of mine to see what my life is like. Overall keeping up a online social account is just like blogging, fun and interesting, as every day is a new day.

I find that social networking websites are very convenient when I want to talk to somebody that I do not see a lot. I also think it's a good way to keep in contact with friends and family that live far away that you don't ever get to see. People also use these websites to express things that are on their mind that they do not necessarily want to verbalize to people. Personally I do use these websites to speak with people that I see everyday, but I like to talk to them when I'm not actually with them, because sometimes you really need to tell someone something, you have no other way of contacting them at the time, and you can't wait to tell them until the next time you see them, or else (in some circumstances) it will be irrelevant. I hope my opinion is helpful. =D

I use facebook and i also text message my friends. Sometimes, it is just easier to get on facebook and send them a message, especially if it is not very important. You can do soo much on there. Personally, I don't feel like I have to make my page any better than anyone else's. You are all supposed to be friends, so why would you feel as if you have to do better than they do? For me, it is easier to put up photos that I want evryone to see on facebook, than to go get them developed and carry them around with me for a week so that I can show them to everyone. As far has having physical friends, I do see most of the people in my friends list on a some what daily basis, but I still talk to them on facebook, also. Sometimes, you just don't have the time during the day to say all that you want to say.

i a member of face book, i thought it was a pain in the butt to start with. but listened to a webnair on it and how you can use it to your advantage. now i'm connected with lots of people world wide, that i may also be connected with via other social site like directmatches, yuwie, zenzuu etc. i'm not a big active user of it, i may wonder in have a look at what people are doing then, see who's online and go out, i've got no photo's to post. but the i have found it good for keeping in contact with old school friends, not that there's many i speak to now. i just mainly use the chat, and a few of the other things. i chat to my best mate, it's the most we've ever spoken in 28 yrs. we live in different states and don't get to see each other that often. but it's great to be able to talk to her, same thing goes with one of my cousins. there is one big down side and that's type a name in and get loads of results, and you can't see if that person is who you want or not. then you might type your own name in and it doesn't come up. this happened on me when i went looking for my boss's daughter. it's up to the invidual on which site they may join, and what they do with it. some are more social than others, and want everyone to know what their doing others just use it to keep in contact at least then if you change email you can still get hold of them via another way in messages.

well, I don't see that joining social networking is a must. I used to, to be honest, but now I joined facebook because there were lots of game, the very fun ones, I can play on the facebook. And social networking like yuwie, you can earn money just by socializing there. I am not using social networking to meet new friends like some people does, but I used them to get connected to my old friends, since I am now living in different city.

Why? Because it's fun. That simple. Some people find pleasures in life by simply getting a Facebook account. It's a place where people can express themselves. You can't be bringing along a physical photo album just to show to let's say 400 of your physical friends all at the same time, can you? About the tech-savvy, because of these social networking sites, people are getting more and more interested in computers and internet. About the photogenic, i guess people are building up confidence don't you think?

I joined facebook because it is so much easier to send out mass messages updating the family about my boys and how we are doing. All of my family and friends live in many different states and I really dont like talking on the phone that much so for me it is an easy free way to update everyone at once with out getting that dreeded phone call why didnt you tell me.
