Another subject of food! Sense a theme tonight?

Are you a parent or spouse that discourages snacks close to dinnertime for fear of ruining an appetite -even healthy ones? As someone who gets headaches, I don't for myself because I'd rather eat less at dinner, which is more efficient for my body and wards off a headache. Sometimes its something small like a fiber bar or maybe yogurt - sometimes I have my starch then and skip it for dinner. I won't discourage my little one either when he's older, in fact, even now, I give him several smalls meals a day - its what I do naturally and it seems to be what he does naturally as well - he asks for food like four to six times a day and he eats just a little bit at each meal. So do you stick to just two meals or three meals a day for yourself and kids - are you okay with a snack if dinner is more then a half an hour away and your kids are very hungry? Do you starve yourself before a really big meal like thanksgiving so you have room to eat a lot? I remember Thanksgiving at my best friend's house. I've been there a for more then one Thanksgiving and there is a theme as there is with other people who speak of this day. People will starve themselves all day to leave more room - to stuff themselves. And there are always snacks out. I was absolutely floored one year when one of the kids there (they always have a huge crowd) was munching on a lot of raw vegetables and her mom warned her to stop or she'd ruin her appetite. So she couldn't gorge on the much more unhealthier foods? I eat normally all day and so I eat quite normally at Thanksgiving Dinner and any other events. That doesn't mean I might have more several hours later or in the morning though! I still really enjoy the food - at least the turkey and mashed potatoes - oh and sometimes cranberry sauce. I can leave the rest - not for me.

For me if I ate an hour before dinner, I wouldn't have dinner until 4 hours later. At my house , we don't have turkey for Thanksgiving. One year we had Chinese food but usually it is pizza and yes I will keep room for it.I can se the point of the mother. if the child eats right before dinner then she would be not hungry at dinner and hungry much later like right before bed.fpr me, i have my large meal at 4pm and then a smaller one or a snack at 9pm or ten . On a work day , my large meal is at 5pm or 6pm and the snack maybe at 12am.It works for me.
