Do you find you eat more when with others or by yourself - or both or neither?

Some people eat more when they have a meal socially. While still others eat more on their own, with no one is watching or while watching tv. Which do you fall into. Also, some people eat more when they are depressed or anxious while some eat less, much less. Others are unaffected - which category would you fall into? Is there any thing that effect your eating besides hunger? Like being in love maybe?

I eat more when I am by myself. Probably because a lot of the time I eat out of boredom than out of hunger. If I am out and about with friends or family I am usually too busy to eat unless we are at a restaurant.

I think it does work both ways-sometimes when out with friends we are so busy talking and listening and having fun, we don't realize what we're even putting in our mouths, and sometimes we don't even have time to chew much! I guess that's what I meant though - when you're eating with others - socially - like at a restaurant or a dinner party....

I would say I definitely eat more when I'm alone. And a lot of the times it is because I'm truly hungry. I have this blessed 'disease' that increases one's appettite. Some people think when I say this I'm somehow talking about diabetes. I don't have that. Anyway, it is usually because I'm hungry, but I do admit I'm an eater when I'm bored. I'll switch on the television and want something to munch on. I'm trying to work in the fruit when I get those kind of munchies. I've gone through two cantalopes this week, so I think I'm on the right track. I walked two miles tonight. So I'm hoping to cut out any emotional eating. And if I slip up, maybe the exercise will bail me out.

Wow I'd say you were doing really great! I walk a few miles as well but I do it really slowly. I walk with my toddler and its a time when I can truly be free to have my own thoughts for an extended, basically uninterrupted time as he is usually very occupied with the world around him. Although we sometimes do talk about that world! And also, the slower I walk, the more likely he is to fall asleep - actually I save the really slow walking to the way back from the park - that way he'll still be asleep - or more likely to be - when we get home. I do the cardio a few times a week from Comcast on Demand - free exercise shows. - I do the simplest ones of course or I get too confused and frustrated! But do my best to vary it. They even have walking programs! And walking and jogging. But in your house. With a few other moves put in and other muscle groups. Are you hyper glycemic? My sister in law is. I get hungry all the time - or used to - in January I gained fifteen pounds in two days - which has never happened to me as far as I know, I lose slowly but steadily and same with gaining. It was very frustrating because I was soooooo proud of myself. I lost thirty lbs right after my baby then in these two years have lost 25 more slowly but surely - wow less then my pre-pregnancy weight - I was feeling good about that! I was just about to drop into another ten pound unit - won't admit which one! And I was very excited. In a short time after this horrific gain - I'd gained fifteen more! And my appetite - always voracious - I wake up starved - has diminished. I'm rarely ever hungry and no cravings even. I know I should go to the doctor but we changed insurance so I have to start the whole process of doctor all over. I have to push myself to eat the many small meals I ate before. Now many days I get in two meals. I even find that I've waited several hours after waking - and this was never the case as long as I can remember - voluntarily. I usually want to eat first thing! I haven't gained anymore since but haven't lost either. I'm planning to just bite the bullet and make an appointment with someone - anyone next week. If I'm lucky its all connected up with my exhaustion (after 2 hours of sleep or eight or more) and headaches. I was thinking maybe menapause? I'm young for that but you never know, my best friend started it at sixteen. Or like a recent discussion of mine - maybe stress or sleep hygiene Anyway, congrats on all the great stuff you're doing for your health!

Being a mother has GOT to be the hardest thing to do and try to eat right and exercise. It's not like one has a lot of time for one's self. I imagine you are a knock out no matter what you weigh. If your outside is as pretty as your inside, then I know you're a very lovely lady. No, I'm not hypoglycemic, but I was told I was as a child. My mom was told she was as an adult. It's about eating before your blood sugar gets low, right?

Thank you, you're so sweet and I feel the same about you. It is hard - I get in two hours or so walking around to the park and back - plus time at the park. And I try to get in my cardio with Comcast on Demand and half of it he will try to copy what they're doing on the screen. half the time I get un even weight lifting because he wants me to hold him and if I want to be able to finish I have to!!! When I lie down to do my stomach exercises he thinks its cuddle time. I swear kids are like cats - very interested in you when you're busy - my cat Sir Lancelot used to want me to hold him while on the exercise bike! and like cats he gets under the sheet and the blanket while I'm making the bed! The thing is, I'm doing things pretty right so this gain is a mystery! Yes exactly, and I guess you wouldn't be because my sister in law who has it actually has to avoid sweets - and she used to be addicted to them. !

I never eat when I am upset, In fact one time I fasted for 24 hours because I was that upset. It all depends on what is on the menu. If it is a dish I love, I will eat the same amount regardless. but if there is only a dish I think is okay out in public,I will have a little and eat more at home.

I probably eat more when I am with others......when I am alone I really don't care and don't want to mess up the kitchen....also I have high cholestal so I really watch what I eat when I am by myself. A long time ago I heard someone say....do you live to eat or eat to live.....I try to eat to live.

I like that - and given a choice between good food and long, youthful life I'd choose the latter.
