I like to watch stars at night since I was a child. For me, stars are mysterious and fascinating. Though I keep the hobbit for so many years, but never have I seen a milky way except on TV or in pictures. The light pollution is severe and serious. In my hometown, a middle city, I can see constellation with relatively shine stars, like Orion in winter and Scorpio in summer. But in the city where my university locates, I can see nothing but sometimes a shining moon at night. Have you ever seen the milky way? Can you see any stars in the sky of your city?

well i see stars every night , its because i live in out skirts of my city , so here there is comparatively less pollution than in city.well but i don't think that we can see milky way galaxy , since we are living in out skirts of it , how can we see it , we can only see stars of it ,we cant see it as a whole.

In some respects, what you say is right. The earth is in the milky way, so how can we human living on the earth see the milky way as a whole? Since we are in the out skirt of it, the milky way galaxy can be seen from the earth appears like a light band across the sky but rather than a dish as it is.

yes, in our place during new moon or half moon days we can see millions of shining starts. there will be constellations as well. recently on two days i could see shooting starts too. one day it was very fast that only i could see it move the next moment it was invisible. i have heard that when starts become blackhole it falls from its position very fast. i just guessed that, that star might have become a blackhole, reaching the end of its life. the shooting start next day was pretty slow that i showed it all at my home. all were excited. again, recently there was a smiley in the sky where a quarter moon with two planets veenus and mars joined together to form two eyes and the quarter moon the smiling mouth. the photo of such a formation came in the local papers. it was there for a week or so.

I saw the smiling face, too! I remember it was in December last year, when I was walking through the campus, raised my head to watch the sky as usual, then I saw the smile of the sky! It is the scene I will never forget in my life.

I can see some Stars at night where I live, but bright streetlights outside spoils the effect..OTOH,my commute to work is only 4 miles and I cycle along an unlit road to get there in good/summer weather, and seeing so many more in the evenings is nice to see!

In my town when the sky is clear and there are no night cloulds covering we can see alot of stars, they are beautiful. And when we go to our forest and there are even less light and all you see is stars, that is just a miracle it is the best thing i have ever seen.
