Following rules and being cheap and stingy at the same time....

There is this lady housekeeper that comes to clean my room. And, whatever dirty linen that I give to her, she in return will give me clean ones back. Okay, but there were a few times, that I will ask her to give me an extra washcloth that I did not have in my room. And you know what, she had a problem giving me an extra washcloth or towel. For everything else, she will give me with no problem. I asked her for soap and she gave me four bars without me even asking for that much. But, yet she can't give me an extra washcloth or two. And she will tell me that she can't just give me extra linen when I don't give her anything dirty so that she can give it back to me. I will have to do a trade for a trade. Give her dirty, she will in return give me clean. And then the amount that I give to her is the same amount that she will give back to me. She does not go over. No objections! Well, lately, I have been noticing that the other 5 housekeepers don't do anything like she does. They will come to my room and pick up the dirty linen and give me more than what I have asked for. They don't count it at all. I had one lady that came with about 4 towels and she just thrust them into my hands. She was not concerned about what all I already had in my room and if I gave her anything dirty back. Then there is this other lady, that comes with so much towels and washcloths. She tried to give them all to me, and I told her politely that I don't need all of these linen. If I need anything, I will only get what I don't have, or have enough of. I am very honest about the linen. I have even had to go to the laundry room a couple of times, just to give one housekeeper towels and other linen that I did not need. I had so much extras in my room until I had to just give some of them back. I know that housekeepers may be trained to do this. But, I am wondering how come she and this older man are the only ones that are doing this. Is this a rule or just a rule that they have created? If I have paid and stayed this long, then I should as a guest, be entitled to extras if I NEED them. I won't ask for something that I DON'T need. My money pays for my stay daily. I know that they have more cloths in stock, probably brand new for all that I know. And I know that she and this man can spare just one extra washcloth. She has a problem with giving me that small amount... It is five people to our room. We can only get four washcloths. We all need a face and body washcloth. So, that gives us a total of 10 washcloths, and five towels. We don't get this much. Not from her and not from the man. I end up getting more from the other housekeepers. If she is following the rules, I can understand that, but if I am honest about what I need, that I don't have, can't she at least, give me what I have requested? As for me, I use my own washcloths to wash with. I don't like using white washcloths to wash my face and body with. I have always used colored and dark washcloths, even with my towels too.

it's more common to ask for the dirties back when getting new.it sounds like you have a senior housekeeper. if everyone did not hand them back, there would be little or none to clean in the hotel, which leads to a shortage, which leads to guest complaints. you would think most hotels have a lot of extra, but they don't.they buy as little as they can get away with.most days when i worked i was lucky if i had enough washcloths for each room.there usually wasn't. they usually tell you if the guest requests extra,if you have it,you're supposed to give it to them.if they don't have it,it's supposed to be marked down for delivery later after more towels have been cleaned.

Hi, scarlet_woman! I can understand where you are coming from. I respect that I will have to give something dirty away to get something clean back. I just don't understand why the management does not buy more supplies of washcloths? All the money that they are making everyday. I wonder where is all of the money going towards?? I am paying daily and they can afford to give me extras. My money is paying for this room.. In return, they need to purchase/order more supplies so that when an guest needs more then it should be no issue with them giving them any without a problem. This lady looks like she is in her late 30s. The lady that has been here for 19 years, is my 2nd cousin and she does not do do what this lady does. It makes me wonder.

i used to ask every place i worked for why they don't buy more. most places, the vaccums barely work, you never have enough stuff, and to make it worse, you have other girls who will steal your cart blind for their rooms while you're at lunch.you have to lock it in a vacant room if you have one. that's like up here-on season, which is june, they charge $400 per night, full house, and they tell us they can't order more towels?they do have a high towel theft rate in summer, but still..at that rate, they can afford it. this one place would run out of shampoo of all things, and the guests would be mad. and i don't blame them,i mean,no shampoo?

That is just pitiful!! It is a shame that someone can pay their last, and can't even get decent services. These people have cameras all over this motel. They should be able to see whom is stealing and whom is not. Do you by chance work at a motel? Or used to? Please give me some advice as to what is going on. $400.00 a night is no joke to pay! All the money that motels and hotels are making off of people, they should have extra supplies stashed in the storage room. It is sad how this world and economy is.

Sweetheart, you need to talk to the manager about these two members of the housekeeping staff. This sounds very much like they are up to no good. At the very least they aren't happy with those who are extended stay guests, and they need to be talked to. My parents ran a motel for many years, and this is just not standard practice!

I can see your frusteration. I am one that can see that petty rules can be broken. But there are always those people that just can not bend no matter what. It just goes against everything that they can do. If its that much of an issue maybe you can go to the manager and request more clothes. And if that does not work then maybe you will have to buy a bunch of wash clothes and wash them at a laundry mat on your own.

She is probably more of a leading house keeper, and is concerned about the inventory of the towels and such than the other housekeepers. She is probably responsible if things go missing. But yes since you are a quest and you are requesting this she should allow you to do this, and just keep a note that you have extra linens.

Hey cream! I understand how frustrating this must be for you! I'm sure that you just can't wait to be able to get out of there! I don't know what to tell you! If you know that you have this problem with these two people then I suggest that you keep some extra linens on hand! If they are going to be like that they I guess you will have to play their game on them! It shouldn't matter to them. It's not like it's their stuff and it's coming out of their pockets! I would just keep some extra stuff on hand for when these two people are playing those games!
