I was just reaading this article. And I actually got angry. The people in this artucle are calling themselves "stretched" Just my opinion here but I don't think so! They vacation yearly, as a family. My family and I have NEVER been able to afford a vacation. ANd I haven't been anywhere with my hubby in six years. And that was to see my parents! Just one of a few things that got me...here is the link. http://finance.yahoo.com/retirement/article/106934/Wealth-Less-Effect-Earning-Well-Feeling-Otherwise

I would be delirious with a paycheck of $50,000 a year. I guess I just learned to live on a budget way lower then that. I know people work hard for their money and that if I had finished school maybe I would be making a little more..but I can't complain to much god and family helps us throw and that is all I can ask for is to have what I need and dreams of what I want. People get used to living a certain way it is hard for them to revert back to the small potatoes again. or So I would assume. I know it would be hard for me cause when I was working I liked that money that was coming in but then I couldn't work anymore and the money is missed..but we learned to live on the smallest budget we can to get by.

The more you make the more you spend. It is the way it has always gone. They could do things to change their lifestyle so $250K is more than enough, but they probably don't want to give up their expensive food, designer clothes, and the maid to clean that 2,500 sq foot home.

I AGREE OMG! MUST BE NICE! I wish we could complain about things like that. Granted he's got the education to obtain such an income & lifestyle. I think if some of these people lived like everyday folks who are they'd change their mind. OMG... I haven't been on a vacation in 5 yrs (the last one the IL's took us on their dime), my house is 1/3 of the size of theirs and we are exploding out of the walls here but I can't exactly upgrade anytime soon. The poor poor poor things!!! They must feel humilated driving a 10 yr old car!! In my world you are doing pretty good for yourself if you are driving a car that's under 10yrs old nonetheless a luxury car. BTW... did you watch last week's wife swap?!?!

They're just as stretched as we are... because they have more bills than we do. They have more car payments, a larger mortgage, they probably pay for a landscaper and pay monthly alarm company fees for their house. They're kids may go to private school which costs a lot. It's not like they have $200K just lying around in a bank and they're living off the 50K, they're actually spending the majority of their income... so of course they have to cut back on stuff just like everyone else does. But since this is the lifestyle they're used to, it's going to be more difficult on them to cut back than on a middle class family who's used to having to go without particular things.
