Bald eagle webcam

This is a webcam that has been set up to watch a bald eagle nest at Sooner Lake, Stillwater, Oklahoma. There were three eggs laid, but only one has hatched. The chick is now getting pretty big. http://www.suttoncenter.org/eaglecam.html

That is wonderful! I bookmarked the site so that I can follow the progress. When I lived in Massachusetts there was a naturalist who rescued raptors that had been injured. Some were able to be re-released, others were not. He was involved in repopulating eagles in Western MA, and when some of the eagles that had to stay in captivity laid eggs, he would carefully put the eggs into known nests around the state that had other eggs in them. Many times going to work I would see eagles, as I had the pleasure of going by one of his repopulation areas. Thanks!

It's a pity that only one of the eggs as hatched, but maybe the eagles will lay again later in the year. That chick is growing at a great rate!

Was there more eggs in the nest earlier? I was looking for a long time to see if there were more eggs, and I couldn't see any. I wonder if all the eggs in a clutch are fertilized? If not, perhaps the mother can tell that there's nothing growing inside. Those eggs would probably be consumed for the energy and nutrient. I'm just guessing there. My son has a turtle who lays eggs once or twice a year. They aren't fertilized and she eats them.

Hahaha! Purrfect play on words there. I'm no expert either, but they must have a way of knowing (eventually) if there's a baby in the egg. I've seen birds push eggs out on purpose, as well as eat them.

Wow! Thats quite interesting, I love nature things like this, where they put cameras around to spy on animals in their natural habitat, they do some really interesting things.
