To tan or not to tan......

that is the question. I don't ever intentionally set out to get a tan, but because I have some Cherokee blood I tan very easily. With all the stuff you see on the news, is it healthy to get a suntan? I don't like sunblock because of the time it takes to put on. It is also greasy. I just can't see myself wearing long sleeves and gloves all summer. What do you think about it. Any suggestions?

I don't feel like putting sunblock everytime I go out but I know that it's what you're suppose to do. Wearing long sleeves or gloves is not even an option- too hot. My suggestion is to just let it be. Try to limit your time out there under the sun unless it's necessary.

I do wear a hat to keep the sun off the top of my head and off my ears, but I guess I am going to have to pay more attention to the rest of me. I can't wear long sleeves because I would melt in the Arkansas heat. I love my garden and I love camping so limiting exposure wouldn't work either. I will try to be good.

You just have to look for ways to protect your skin. Whatever works should be your number one goal.

I have stayed out in the sun all of my life and never heard that it could cause skin cancer until afew years ago and then it was to late I have moles comning and going now I have some taken off ,just one was the kind that cause cancer and it was taken off before it turned to cancer. So you do need to use sun screen even if it takes time or greasy.I alway tanned easy to That is why I didn't bother with lotion.I wish I had now.Take care of your self

Oh Annie, I am glad your mole was caught before the real trouble started. I had a mole taken off last year and it was nothing. But I guess that started me to thinking about it.

I don't use any sunblock either. I just go out as normal and I gradually tan over the summer. It's not something I seek, but a part of normal life. I supposedly have a bit of Cherokee blood, too, and I never burn.

I have burned before but it has been a long time ago. And I always wear a wide brimmed hat when I work in the garden. :)

It seems to me that people who are light skinned want to be darker skinned by getting a tan and people who are dark skinned want to be lighter and so they stay out of the sun. Why cant people just be happy with what God gave them?? Why the torture of changing yourself? I'm sure you all have bigger problems than getting a tan!!

Oh, yes bigger problems I have. But I just don't want skin cancer to be one of them. And people with curly hair want straight hair and people with straight hair want curly hair. I guess people will just be people, won't they.;)

I actually do take an umbrella with me when I go somewhere I know that I will be sitting outside with no shade. I take it fishing, to ball games, and even on a walk. My grandmother used to take hers everywhere with her. I can remember laughing at her because she would lose one about every week because she would sit it down in a store and forget to pick it back up. Thanks :)

I know I should not tan but I feel so much better with a tan. I am doing the spray on tan right now to prepare for my sisters wedding in May, but I will be tanning some in the sun this summer. I have to .... I know bad, bad girl... I am 1/2 Seminole so I tan easy as well

I just moved to Cali and I'm working on my tan. I use sunblock because it does help.

If I lived in Cali, I would be at the beach all the time. My aunt and uncle live in Bakersfield and we always go to Pismo Beach when we visit them. I love picking up shells early in the morning. Have fun!

i dont tan that easily, and i used to love staying under the sun, that was a very long time ago. it's a lot different now, with global warming and climate changes, and here so very very hot, staying under the sun here feels like my skin is burning. even when i go outside just to buy something at the store, it is so hot. i am not a fan of umbrellas, but now i always bring an umbrella when i go out especially when it's sunny, because of that burning feeling. sunblocks, are very expensive here, and i dont have that much money to buy one, so an umbrella is a must.
