I got a female German Shepherd and i think she is in love with a male German shepherd in our society. When ever i walk her past his apartment she would start jumping and barking and would do anything to attract attention from him.. she is a friendly dog and is friends with many dogs in our society but this behaviour of hers only for that dog.. may be i read wrong .. it might be normal behaviour of a dog..but it got me thinking.. do dogs fall in love like us humans?

I defeniatly think animals (canine and feline species most defeniatly) can develop feelings for eachother, like us. Animals are very affectionate, towards us and eachother. Animal parents of some species are as protective, maybe even MORE protective of their families then us! I mean, can you honestly say that without a doubt 100% of parents would literally DIE to save their children? Unfortunatly I can't...people have a natural sense to protect themselves over anything, although I do believe there are some people who would die to save others. But in the animal kingdom it is a lot more likely a parent would die protecting their young, and there are tons of videos to prove this, with all different animals! So to get back to your question, yes I believe dogs can fall in love with eachother. They can grow attached and protected of eachother just as we do. Your dog obviously sensed something about her fellow german shepherd that she liked :) Does she ever get any contact with him? Do you know the other dogs owners?

yes they have grown together i mean she is only 1 month or so older than him and since childhood they would play together , chase each other in society lawns ( we allowed them early morning when no one was there ;)) so yes she knows him quite well.

Yes freind dogs fall in love too. I had a female german sheperd who was in love with my neighbour's GS. Two years a go the owner of that house moved and we were forced to send our dog with them. She's married to him and visits us once or twice in a month. I never knew dogs fell in love until this incedent.

Yes of course…I think all animals fall in love. Now whether that love is more of enduring sublime purity or a purely cardinal instinct at mating, I have little idea. However, in dog families, I have seen male dogs and female dogs sharing a lot of affection for each other apart from the mating season. They snuggle up just like that, share child-raising responsibilities and come to each other’s protection if required. So I think they are actually capable of falling in love and sticking to partners just like humans.

I believe that they do. As you said you can tell the difference when you pass this other german shepherds house the reaction. They have their likes and dislikes just as we do. They do fall for another specific one than another. So in their way this is love for them.

i believe they can. they develop other human chrarcteristics after living with us for a long time. why should love be any different. other animals such as swans fall in love so i think it is possible for dogs to do it too. happy mylotting

dogs are driven by hormones, when it is their time to mate they just have to do it.

I think that it's possible. After all a dog can look at it's owner lovingly, be affectionate by asking for attention, and for pettings, licking the owner. I think that a dog can have the same feelings as a human but maybe a little different. If your dog reacts differently to this one dog, she may be in love with him. Women (human) are thought of to have a different way of being affectionate to men, so maybe the same is true for female dogs.

In their own way, yes, I'm sure they can say "I love you" They do by licking us, greeting us when we come in, and waiting for us by the door / looking out the window. For dogs loving dogs I'm sure it's in their bark, lol.

I don´t know about "falling in love" but I have seen that they like some dogd better than others. It also happens with people: there must be a smell they like or not. You are lucky that your girl feel in love with a dog of the same breed. My daughter has a beautiful collie and she just had a torrid love affair with an extremelly unsuitable male. We don´t know what´s going to happen. The vet did something like the day after pill but she went after him again Happy mylotting

Yes it is good thing that she is in love with her breed but i am not sure how would i handle so many puppies.. i mean i am not a breeder and since keeping pets in not a big thing India , it would be very difficult for me to find homes for her puppies and i live in an apartment of about 1000 sq ft which is not even enough for her leave aside her babies

I can't imagine why not. Animals, like humans, can feel emotions like fear, happiness, joy, ect. Dogs are intelligent creatures, and I wouldn't hesitate to say that they can fall in love. But, they are animals, and they do tend to be more, for lack of a better word, animalistic. It could just be their natural "urge" to mate. But, if a dog can show affection towards humans, they should definitely be able to love.

Hahaha!!! I can not stop laughing reading this topic. It is really a very funny topic. But it might be true. I remember when I was a kid I used to play with four dogs. And they were so good I just can not explain. But in than time I did not understand about their affection to each other. Now when I see dogs together, they feel to be close to each other. It simply means they feel something for each other. And maybe this is love. ;)

i suppose it's possible. my afghan hound dog used to have a neighborhood dog-a female german shepard that jumped our fence into the yard, and they'd play and play for hours,he seemed truly happy. we knew who owned the dog,and she seemed genuinely friendly,so we let her stay in there with him.sadly, because they let that dog loose all the time,it got hit by a car eventually.my poor dog mourned,so i'm pretty sure he loved her.

oh yeah, i agree with it..some dog fall inlove with other dog..the same dog..because what is the reason why until now the life of dog is still exist if they don't fell inlove with each other...having kids with purpose or without purpose is still love...well this is my opinion

I think it is very interesting. I sometimes wonder if they think like "Oh the little poodle next door is so cute, hope mama will bring me out soon so that I can see her!" I know it is normal that they wag tails and dance but I still think they can fall in love too :-p
