Cuddling or cleaning?

My son has a couple of teeth coming in at once. Some people told me that once they begin to pop, all of them are going to pop. So he's been a bit clingy and weepy lately. I had so much work to do last night when I got home - dishes to wash, laundry to fold, rooms to vacuum. But instead I just cuddled and played with him the entire evening. I know some people would probably take one look at the condition of the house and turn up their noses. But I don't regret one moment of time spent with him. I know he won't remember because he's so young but I feel better that I spent time with him. The dishes can wait, the rooms will still need vacuuming but I'll never get that time with him again.

Your son may not remember the specific evening but the love and support you gave to him last night was worth the world to him because he needed you and you were there. You are building a bond of love and trust with your child that will last his entire life. When my kids were little there were many times when my house was a wreck. I recently had to remind my son-in-law that the state of his and my daughter's home is less important than the emotional welfare of their children. They have three...an 8 year old, a 3 year old and a 1 year old. There are many days when one or both of the little ones want my daughter's attention all day...won't take a nap...won't give her a break for a second...and those are the days she gives to them. Life is about priorities and, when you're a parent, your child is your priority, especially when he's little and isn't feeling well.

Hi spalladino...I'm happy to know that other parents made the same choices. This is my first child and I'm constantly second guessing myself with regards to his upbringing. It's wonderful that your daughter and son-in-law have such a supportive family in you. I do feel like my child is priority and the vacuuming can wait until I have squeezed and kissed him to my full! Thanks for your response.

You're welcome...and stop second guessing yourself! I raised four kids and there were times when my house looked like a tornado hit it...especially when there were toys all over the place and laundry piled up...so you're not alone. Enjoy your baby boy because he will be grown before you know it.

When my babies were that small, my house was not clean, now it is because they go to school four days a week, I clean when they are at school. they are only young once, your house will be there tomorrow. As long as the bugs are not carrying you away I would cuddle with the little one. He needs you right now. You did the right thing

Hi meandmy3...Thanks for the laugh this morning. No, the bugs are not carrying us away. I'm sure they would rather pick up the scattered Os which are probably all over the place! I do feel I did the right thing also but it's nice to hear - thank you!
