pet names, "cute" names, just don't yeah? People have suddenly developed this habbit of calling my by some really annoying names, these are people I have never met before in my life, they call me honey (I'm not your honey) Dear (I'm not a doe) Baby (How patronising?) AAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH! Then theres nicknames, I have had loads, Taz,mowgli, herc, hyde to name but a few. Do you hate nicknames or pet names? DO you give them, get them do they annoy you? If you had to nickname me what would you call me?

Some times it bothers me, like when its a person that knows your name but they don't never call you by it. It's always honey, sweet heart or something like that. My ex-husband never called me by my name, it was always honey. One day I got mad and yelled at him, I asked him if he forgot what my name was, when he no I told him "how bout using it sometimes then".

It was, to me when someone never calls you by your name is really disrespectful in a way. I fell like my name is just as important as theirs is. I don't mind it every once in a while but not all the time.

'Baby' and 'dear' drive me nuts too. I don't mind if hubby calls me honey, but everyone else better find their own...lol. 'Mam' is insulting to me, especially when I don't remember crossing over to that from 'Miss'. Most of my friends call me 'Cat', and I like that. not knowing you that well, if I had to give you a nickname, I'd probably call you Monte.

haha, you're a Mam! i like monte, thats kind of cool, but people did call me that on here before, because they thought I was a boy!

To me it's indicative of intelligence and sharp wit, and in Monty Python...lol. I won't call you dear, if you don't call me mam.... Mam sounds like short for mamed.

deal. in the UK its maam as in harm as in "I will do you harm if you call me ma'am)

well, when people call you by nick names they make you feel comfortable and close. if you don't like to be called by nick names then must let the person know about it. well, when people call me by nick names then i feel nice. but i allow only close people to do so.

I like pet names. I don't mind if someone calls me dear, honey or darling. My bf calls me different pet names but he never did that to his other girlfriends before. My calls me puppy, pumpkin, sugar, and Snoopy.

I think some people just want to sound friendly by calling you those pet names. I get that all the time but it doesn't bother me that much. What I don't particularly appreaciate though is when someone calls me "sweetie" after telling me something I needed to know. I mean they do sound nice and friendly but it makes me feel a bit naive with the situation that I wish I knew better than being told about it or being called sweetie which is a nicer way to say "you dummy". Now I don't know you at all so I don't think I would want to give you a nickname or anything. Maybe next time you should tell them your name when they call you honey, dear, or baby...maybe then they will get the message. Take care :)

maybe thats a good idea! I forgot about sweetie! It is kind of patronising! the only person that ever called me that was my old Drama teacher.

I love that these friends may be the performance of your love. In fact, I think you can still accepted, so that more and closer friends. You can also find them the advantage of pets and lovable. Perhaps you will not do very much dislike the bar.

Just for an introduction I used to give nicknames to all the friends in my class. I have good sense to judge a person by talking to them So accordingly I used to give them nicknames. Every one enjoys that but some were so annoying that they were not accepted even I realized that after wards. At least I should know your name, age, current activity, etc to give you a descent petname. It can be cool, sweet, annoying, etc

I don't really care if people call me by a nickname. In fact I kind of like that way and sometimes involuntarily I would also address other people with dear. Really I had no idea that calling somebody dear can be annoying to them. In future maybe I will remember this and before writing posts I will try to make sure I do not offend anybody. I think calling by a nickname is just trying to show a bit more care for the other person to whom you are speaking especially in forums like this when we actually know very little about each other. So in return when people would address me like dear friend or something like that it makes me a little more comfortably with that person in future. But any this is my way of thinking and everybody's the process is quite unique and different so in future I think I need to be a bit more careful. The whole meaning of being here is to make friends and not annoy people.

Nicknames is a symbol of closeness to me so I don't bother to have any. My friends call me by nicknames only when they think we are closeness to do so. And if someone do that to me just to tease me, I won't even bother to be annoyed. Why should I? Whatever they call me, I am still myself. Doesn't hurt a piece of my hair. Sometimes, it's even just a good laugh for me and my friends. I've got nicknames like Yamaha, Meow, Crazy, Camel.....actually, may be whatever I am called I will respond. XD

I love nicknames and pet names. There are nicknames or pet names that I like and there those that I don't like to hear again. Since birth my nickname is uni. I don't like to be called by uni because most of my elementary classmates teased me that I am a ball pen because uni is a brand of pen here in our country. Good thing in high school my cousin invented a new nickname for me. It is yonks. I like it. From then on, I stop using uni. When I reach college my classmates give me another nickname. It is yanka marie. According to them, I need to adopt it to make my nick name more feminine. Now, I created another nickname and that is yonkie. If I had to give you a nickname, I would choose "eyes" because of your avatar.

yonks, thats kind of cool!

Don't you think it is kinda dum to ask wat kind of a nick-name some one would give you after you just complained about getting them.....makes no sense ya think? I have only two and they are Nisey and Ma called by my friends and family. But if i was called another one who cares it's just a name not that it makes me who I am and if i let it bother me thats crazy, there are enough problems in the world. I am not going to waste my time worrying about some body having a phase and givein me a nick-name. I do give them to but only to the special people I have a best friend who I also call Ma and a few in my family I call Boo. But like I said it's just a word, it does not define who you are.

I don't mind when my Mom or sis call me by my nickname as tey have been doing that since ..I was born?I don't even mind it even if its someone I know.We used to have this chauffer who used to call me by the nickname used by my family members. That was really irritating and I felt like I was being treadted like a kid.I hate it when people I personally don't know use nicknames unless they ask me wether its fine to use or give me a new nickname.
