How do you get pen marks off of a backpack?

The thing that I have found most successful in this case is by taking a cotton ball and soaking it in finger nail polish remover. Make sure you get the kind with Acetone in it. Just rub it on a part of the back pack that you can't see to make sure that the material of the backpack is not going to fade. That would do more harm than the ink itself.
