Oh I too enjoy using AVG free, but I must say that the latest updated version is very strange. When I downloaded it, it was in german and I had to manually change it to english about seven times every time I would turn on the computer. But it indeed has saved my computer many a times when I had a virus on it that was literally reinstalling itself by the second and AVG caught it each time. I also find Norton Antivirus very useful, but the most popular with me is Malwarebytes. It works great and will remove any malware killing you system. I recommend it with five stars. Great discussion by the way, I enjoyed this one.

as long as you have firewall enabled, whether windows built-in or a 3rd party and also you use a good anti virus program, there should not be a security concern.

I have used AVG free for many years. And I love it. I tell everyone about it. Although I have had a few viruses that AVG has not been able to get rid of completely at first, I find that if I update and then run the scan that it fixes any problems. I give it an A+

I am not a big fan of Windows (I use Linux most of the time) but I did buy Symantic AntiVirus for my Windows partition. Downloading free programs for Windows bugs me because it has so many security holes. (with the exception of major programs like Firefox, iTunes, etc.) The full scan found a few viruses which were removed (I constantly update the definition file and scan it). The reason why Linux doesn't have antivirus software is primarily because it is free but also because the viruses on Linux are nothing compared to the viruses for Windows. Nothing catastrophic can be done to Linux unless you are logged in as root and run random commands or if you install a package from an outside source.
