Why does my dog always pee everywhere?

My dog is now an outside dog. He decided he was just going to pee wherever. If I had him in a cage in the house he would sometimes pee in there. He learned to bark when he wanted to go out, but then when I would open his cage door he wouldn't come out. I had to reach in to get him out and then he would pee. Sometimes he would just pee when you pet him. Sometimes a little red rocket would appear on his lower belly. Ha. What's up with this dog. I want an inside dog. anyone know of a good breed for inside that don't pee everywhere? It has to be good with kids too. Thanks.

There's no reason to get a new dog. A dog's behavior and habits are formed by us the dog's owner, they are not bred into them.
You can put your dog on a good house training schedule and stick to it with consistency and persistence and you should achieve the desired result. I also agree that a trip to the Vet would be beneficial to rule out any medical reasons for the inappropriate urination problem.
You can read some more about submissive urination here - http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/submissive-urination.html I'm not sure this is applicable to you and your dog but it is worth considering.
Please take charge of your dog and bring him inside where he belongs.
All the best with him.

It sounds to me that the dog is fearful . If he won't come out of his cage and you have to reach in and pull him out , that seems to be fear. Dogs will also potty on the floor when they are fearful. How old is the dog ? Where and when did you get him? Maybe the dog came from an abusive home . .
I really don't think getting a different dog is the answer .
It's not easy potty training a dog . You have to have an eye on the dog constantly. It takes alot of patience and praise
I would bring the dog back in and begin basic training on him . Being outside
all the time will teach him nothing and only cause behavior problems, as he is left alone and bored .

You may want to keep the dog you have and either have him retrained. Or if he was fully trained and just started this you may want to take him to the vet. It could be a simple matter of something physically wrong with him. Did something change in your household that would have upset the dog? Maybe even as simple as another animal visiting your house. It doesn't sound like he was fully trained either. You may have accidentally scared or intimadated him. If he doesn't come out of the cage when he barks to be let out he is scared for some reason. You may want to call the vet.

I agree with everyone that has posted so far. I think that you should go to the vet to see if the dog has an infection. It takes a while to train dogs and even when you do get them trained and on a schedule they will still have accidents sometimes. When I got my dog he was 3 months old. He is now 15months. It took me a good 4 months before he stopped peeing and occassionaly pooping inside my apartment. He learned to sit right next to the door to let me know that he needs to go when its not my scheduled time to take him out.
Once you get dogs on a schedule they will learn to hold it. You have to be consistant though. When you take him out in the morning during the week you have to do at the same time on the weekends.
The only time he has accidents now its my fault. Sometimes Im in a hurray and I dont walk him long enough for him to do all his business.
I think you should give the dog another go at being an inside dog, but if you really want another dog I recommed a shitzu. That is what I have. They are smart and easy to train and good with kids and people who have allergies.

usually dogs pee as a sign of marking their territory so when other dogs happen to pass by the know that this place is taken.. but as for your dog he just needs training..He sounds like he's very fearful of you so dogs express fear by either winding their tail in btwn their legs or peeing.. You need to show him that you are his master and there's no need to be afraid of you...

I would highly recomend taking your dog to a vet if you haven't done so already. It's not normally for a dog to lay in his own urine. My dog rarely had accidents in the house then all of a sudden he was urinating everywhere. We took him to the vet and found out he was diabetic. He began treatment and has since not had anymote "accidents." It could also be a bladder infection or something could be wrong with your dog's kidneys.

All dogs can be indoor dogs with the correct training. They will not learn to be housetrained on their own. You have to actively and consistently train your dog and even continue to do so once you have achieved the level of training you desire so they don't start to "un-learn" it. How old is your dog? If he is a new puppy then sometimes they urinate at odd times. When my dog was a puppy, he would pee when he got excited, when something scared him, and sometimes just stop in the middle of something and pee right there. It is important to not "spank" our dog if they make a mistake. That can make them nervous and confused and only make their urinating problem worse. If he does it in the wrong place, show it to him an say a loud stern "NO" and maybe smack it(not too hard) on the snout. He will get it after a few times. OR your dog could have a bladder problem. I would suggest calling the vet and explaining what your dog is doing. It is an easy and *free* way to get a professional opinion rather than making the trip to the vet and paying for an appointment just to be told that it is normal and nothing is wrong. I wish you luck!
