Do you have sheets or a duvet on your bed?

Duvets weren't around when I was growing up, so we had a sheet, blankets and eiderdown on the bed. Now, I hate having all that weight of blankets and bedcovers as I've got so used to duvets. Plus the top sheet used to be tucked in so that you could hardly move and I wouldn't like that now either. It must be different in different countries according to the climate. Do you have a sheet or duvet?

I'm not sure what a duvet is but I know I've heard of them before. We use a mattress cover, sheet, comforter, pillows and pillow cases. In the winter we might have an electronic blanket along with the sheet and comforter, of course with pillows and pillow case as well as matress cover. I like the look of some layered beds (layered with a lot of different sheets) but I much prefer just a sheet, comforter and on cold winter days an electric blanket.

Maybe a comforter is the same as a duvet, except you don't usually have a sheet between you and a duvet. I will investigate....

Then a duvet must be thicker then some comforters. If you say there's no sheet between you then I guess that it would have to be one in the same. Does a duvet have feathers in it? I think I've heard of it before, but I know different regions have different names for things.

Hi Amber, a duvet is the french word for a continental quilt, which is basically a quilt stuffed with things which count at a certain toggage, so you can get lighter ones for summer and heavier ones for winter. I always presumed a comforter was sort of a quilted throw or something for on top of the bed. Anyway over here we don't have duvets, only quilts, which are way too thin. A duvet generally goes inside a nice cover which comes off for washing at the same time as the sheets and is very difficult get back inside the cover afterwards.

Hi katsalot, like you I was more than happy to see the back of sheets and blankets in favour of the duvet. Luckily for four to five months of the year I need nothing but a sheet to lie in but in winter I opt for a duvet. However they don't relly sell them here unless exorbitanty expensive so I have been settling for a rather uselss thin Greek quilt covered in blankets.

I'm surprised that they aren't used a lot there. They have got so cheap here! I've just put the heavyweight winter one on and it's so nice being warm without being weighed down.
