Gosh! I miss hearing that! Back, years ago, I had AOL, and as bad as I hated it.. I loved it saying REALLY LOUDLY.. YOU'VE GOT MAIL! I would nearly jump outta my skin!!!!.. and I thought .. NOW THIS IS THE REAL INTERNET EXPERIENCE! bumbling around like an idiot, not knowing what you are doing and something jumping out to scare you to death announcing that you have mail! Nothing was better than knowing that somewhere.. someone... was reaching out to communicate! such a air of excitement in it all! I compare it to hearing the ice cream truck coming on a hot summer day! I hated AOL... but loved the scare and thrill of knowing that I HAD MAIL! I have high speed internet now.. and nothing jumps out at me and says anything.. no longer do I have to wait 3 hours for a page to load(though I hated waiting I knew it was gonna be good when it did!!)..and I don't hear it dialing up with that cool static noise with the chimes (I miss that too!lol) or hearing my computer say GOODBYE when I log off.. and WELCOME when I came back! Did you ever have AOL? If so, what do you miss about the old dial up days??

Having mail is always good. I never had AOL but I did have dial up once upon a time. When I got my first modem and the world of the Internet was opened up to me, I was blown away and wondered how I ever lived without it, it was like, how did we ever live without a remote control for our TV. The only thing that I miss from the dial up days is the sound of the modem connecting, all those crazy little beeps and blips

LOL, wow reading this just made me think of that announcement from aol, " You've got mail". I had dial up and hated the long wait with aol too. I still have aol high speed, but hardly use it only to check my emails, and aim once in awhile on my cell phone ( lol). You are so right about how the sound of the announcing of mail who scare the mess out of me. And the welcome and goodbye greetings, I loved that too. Now on all the other internet connections you don't get any of that at all. Now as much as I love that and hated aol's dial up service, what I hated more was there customer service department based all the way in India somewhere with ppl you couldn't understand over the phone. Now that was truly annoying and mind wrecking!

OHHHHHH HOW I REMEMBER THE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! rofl!!! I remember I lost my password and I had to call them and it took me forever to get the woman to understand that I lost my password.. she said "yor pissword"? and I would repeat.. "I lost my pass word!"... and I noticed that she wasn't understanding me at all.. why is it that when someone doesn't understand our language we talk louder? like that will help them understand! lol! I was screaming I LOST MY PASSWORD! and she would act even more confused.. I just hung up and canceled that account and opened up another one! lol! this is more like my time online in those days.. watch and learn! lol! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwlX89PMTIo

I've never had to suffer through dialup, but I did have one of those audio email notifiers at one time. I must be getting nervy in my old age, because it would jolt me out of bed in the middle of the night with it's shrill "You've got mail, open NOW!" and I'd be three feet off the bed and crashing to the floor! LOL Then I found the volume button on my computer.........................ROFL

LOL! to turn it up louder??? yeahhhhh.. there is nothing in the world like hearing that ya got mail at 3 am! is there? I had incredimail and it had a notifier that you could choose.. I had the little dog barking and I would go to bed and hear that darn dog bark all night.. my dog would sit in front of the computer and growl! so I got two notifiers for the price of one! hahaha!

I have heard that countless times...lol. I used to wait for it before and watch the number of emails change, especially if I was waiting for something. I love AOL! I always have. I still use it, guess its just cause I am so familiar with it and how it works that I dont just use Internet Explorer like most. Oh well. I am not a fan of IE at all. Too slow for me. I dont like the extra tabs and stuff, I am just used to the windows in AOL. I have not had dial up in FOREVER it seems. Thank god! It was so slow and there really wasnt much you could do to make it any faster, unlike high speed.

My sister had AOL, but I never did. I had dial up however, now I have the faster Internet since beginning of March. I don't miss the dial up noise though that used to drive me nuts..lol(like that had far to go to do that) But I don't miss the forever page loads either. I think one of my sister in laws has something called incredimail that when you have mail it notifies you. She has a dog that brings her the mail..lol http://www.incredimail.com/english/splash/email-client.aspx # Enjoy a huge variety of animated email Notifiers # See exciting 3D Effects in your emails # Add funny Animations to your emails She loves it. So maybe check it out. Might be something you might like.

I had AOL before, and I hate it. They charged me huge amount of fees, and I was once stole by a hacker my password and AOL account. Fortunately, it was blocked, Since then, I giving up on dial - up internet, and switched it to Bellsouth DSL. I don't miss anything from dial up, because it was really sucks. Now, I rather enjoy the fast internet in my rooms.

I've never had AOL but one of my close cousins did, and I remember she'd occasionally sign on around me, and whaddya know - that annoying voice would come on and tell her she had mail. I think it's totally outdated, is what I think. I think that was a very "user-friendly" approach to letting people know they had mail, because they didn't necessarily know how to go about and look themselves. I'm glad that no other email provider does that. I get so much spam with Yahoo that the voice would probably be going off every 2 minutes to alert me that I had mail.

letting people know they had mail, because they didn't necessarily know how to go about and look themselves. yeah! that described me! the first time I heard it.. it took me a little over 2 hours to find my mail button!

Haha, I definitely miss the dial up noises. That is hilarious. Especially when you had gotten signed off for some silly reason. And it was taking forever and redialing and trying different numbers. All the while you were trying to reconnect to continue a heated IM conversation with someone you had never met. ;) AOL IM definitely helped me get my fast typing skills that I have today.

that's how I learned to type so fast too! lol! I always got disconnected when someone would be ringing my phone.. I'd get soooooooo mad! they were ruining my internet experience! lol!
