The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) really puts the CRA in CRAP, and when you comebine THE and IRS it spells THEIRS! I'm a Canadian. I've gotten atleast a $300 tax refund every year, and this year NOTHING! I don't have to pay anything either, thank God, but I didn't GET anything either. CRAP!!!! This sucks. Anyone else not getting a refund this year?

Sorry to hear that you didn't get a refund that you were expecting to get. I put off sending my taxes in to be prepared because I had a fear that I was going to owe. But I was pleasantly surprised that I received a $1,500 return. So now, I can at least get my washer and dryer fixed or get new one's and get a new digital camera so that I can give my current digital camera to my youngest daughter for a birthday gift, since her birthday is in May and she is due to have her first child in June. Other than that, it will be used to pay bills as they come along.

Someone must have changed the tax laws. That really stinks! I got a refund this year it was like close to $5000, last year we got almost 6000 back and so we changed our deductions at work. We had them take out less of my husband's pay and we still really over paided. We do however have a lot of tax write offs. I hope next year you get your refund!

You got 6000 back last year but you only got 5000 back his year. I think this is still pretty cool. Kathy.

I'm right there with you DC. I don't have to pay anything, and I'm grateful for that. But I don't get a refund either, even though I'm a single mom and have custody of my kids. Somehow, I didn't qualify for the stimulus package or earned income credit. First time ever.

I just got my tax return... woohoo right? WRONG. I was penalized (or whatever you want to call it) because the government involuntarily sent me a check last year which they 'taxed' at 100%... so I am out $600 that I thought I had coming to me. Taxes suck. Thanks Zelo

Now that my husband is retired, he has to pay taxes, but I got so many deductions that I get a refund. And guess where my refund went, to yours truly. Here I was hoping that my refund would make it easier for me to get the top of the line laptop I was hoping for, but it did not. And if it were not for the fact that I shoved all my charitable deductions and told my husband to use these I would have had to pay as well. And he wanted me to cash out all my registered retirements funds at once instead of stretching them out for three years. After all, I will not turn 70 for four years. Did he think we were going to enter a time warp and sweep 4 years into the future with one whole swoop?

I didn't get any this year either. Like you thank God that it was worked out so that I didn't have to pay. I did have to pay the state $415.00. And last year was my last year of working for now. I am not employed my job ended December 12 2008. If I don't get employment before the end of this year I will not be filing for 2009. Oh well that's life.

The only reason why I probably got a refund was because of all the itemized deductions that we have. Also, when you have kids you can claim them as dependents. Usually single or married couples with no kids don't get any refund.

There is only one thing worse than paying income Tax, and that's Not paying any. I'm going to get hit really hard this year by the CRA, but I won't complain. (I might even buy a new Car, what with the interest rates so low and all)- Damn, I'm so glad Not to be getting a refund!

It's funny that we hear on the TV about how there are so many more tax cuts this year yet no one seems to be getting any money back so where are they? Most people I know aren't getting anything back and I few I know have to pay even more than they already paid. Kind of makes a person wonder why they are working when the government takes a third of it from us. I am self employed and have a lot of deductions so I rarely have to pay much. But every year I do have to pay some since I don't pay all year long. It isn't too bad though, as last year I only had to pay $2200.00 and this year if I did my paper work right, I will only have to pay about $1600.00. I am just waiting for my sister, who does my taxes, to get back to me to see if I am right. I do my own bookkeeping and my financial report which is what I send to my sister and she then does the tax part. But since I am self employed I have till June 30th to do my taxes so my sister leaves me for one of the last ones she does. She owns a income tax company back in Winnipeg.

I'm so sorry you didn't get your $300 return this year! At least you didn't have to pay anything, which is a relief. I don't have to pay any taxes any more since I don't own any property. I hope things will work out better for you in the future. Kathy.

I got mine - I have it applied to my student loans right away though (have for the last 4 years) that way they get paid off faster and the interest is less over time then!
