Enviornamental issues and the uneven distribution of resources may not have been hotly debated issues in Gandhi's days but his thoughts are relevant today verymuch. We should have a thought at his words:- "Civilization in the real sense of the term consists not in the multiplication but in the deliberate and voluntary reduction of wants, which promotes real happiness and contentment and increase in the capacity for service. One can reduce one wants by perseverance, and the reduction of wants makes for happiness-a healthy body and a peaceful mind".

Mahatma Gandhi was a very good environment supporter. He had emphasised on the idea that we are what we are because of our environment! At any cost, environment must be protected from man made devastation and exploitation. And unless we streamline and limit our needs, we can never protect our environment and resources from artificial wastage. So we must always sort out our own needs in a well planned manner and use our resources without wasting it. Thanks for this nice topic and have a good day!!

Yes, we must reduce our wants through the proess of optimization of needs. Otherwise, what we want is converted to wastage by taking more stock! Properly planning our own needs can make us capable to reduce wastage, which is a great idea for managing properly our resources! This always supports Gandhiji's vision on need, stock and consumption. Thanks for this nice posting and have a good day!

Thats a great thought .Desire or what you call it 'wants' are main reason why man is not happy this has been researched some 15,000 years ago in early vedic time in India and main way for happiness in life is to either not to desire much or have a reasonable desire that aims at ultimate happiness . I dont know how relevant it is the modern society but thats a real logic when you think deep about your problems..
