IS there such a thing as homemade fondant? I was watching this show on cupcake & cake decorating and my daughter thought some of the projects they did were really neat. I'd like to try them but I don't know where I could find fondant & if I could justify the expense for premade. Anyone know?

Yes, my mother-in-law decorates cakes on a weekly basis and makes her own fondant when needed. However you can buy it where they sell cake decorating supplies. And if you'd like to try it at home you might try googling: fondant recipe or looking on the wilton cake decorating site as well. I know the wilton books have recipes in them. Good Luck and have fun!

Never thought about the Wilton site for recipies. Thanks for the tip! There's only one baking supply shop and it's 30 min away & very expensive...

Hello Cake World , My niece just started baking, and she's just one of those kids who are constantly on her phone or computer. So her father(my brother) and I decided for her college fund and for her entertainment we would put together a cake decorating site for her. I purchased one of these products for her to get started on her Cake Decorating Business she wants to start, She's 15, and she's been in love with decorating since. She wants to own her own custom Cake Design company when she gets older. So when a child has a dream you have to support it, especially when the dream is reachable. So I'm not asking for anybody to purchase a thing, but if you have the time to comment please do so. It would mean the world to her. If you have any ideas for her or advise please share on the website. Much appreciated!!! Thanks

I didn't even know what fondant was but I looked it up and there are a lot of recipes for different kinds. They don't look expensive, one uses butter, powdered sugar and corn syrup. Another uses marshmallows. I would think you could whip some up very cheaply. It'd be fun for you and your daughter to make some lovely baked goods! Perhaps you could even sell some.
