what animal could it possibly be?

Hello mylotters,
I just went to the backyard and I noticed a dead animal. An animal that I ve never seen before. It is as big as a cat, brown, looks like a raccoon (But I don't think it is one)and with long balck claws.
Any ideas? And I Leave in NYC

well its hard to know with just a description ya know..if you could post a pic that would make it much easier...someone mentioned an opossum which is very possible..My one dog has killed a couple of those and they can get quite large....

A picture (I know sounds gruesome) would be helpful.
Can you bag it up and call animal control or take it to the SPCA?
Maybe there is a local wildlife foundation that could identify it. Or what about those companies that specialize in getting rid of wild critters in your house. I would think they would need to identify what type of animal they are trying to get rid of before they would be able to do the job properly.
