I wonder if you have a habit of reading bills in the restaurant in case you are overcharged. Here in China,we dont need to give tips to waiters. However,I think giving tips to waiters is wiser cuz at least you have a good reason to be served well.lol Long time ago,we found a mistake in our bill after we paid.We were charged for a dish never served. This noon, I got my change with the bill, but I was busy talking with my friends and forgot about the bill.I never know I was overcharged or not.Anyway, this incident made me start this discussion. Not bad.lol Love to read your responses.Have a good day.

Going thru the bill before paying is in no way related to tipping. Tipping is as per our personal wish though most of the time I would definitely tip. Also in most places I have gone to eat, the service has been good as the waiter has no way of knowing whether I would tip or not, after the meal is over. Regarding going thru the bills, yes it’s a good habit to always check the bill properly before paying coz there is always scope of human error, esp if the restaurant is a popular one and many bills are being made simultaneously

yeah, I do read my bills everytime we eat in a restaurant. There are some food establishments which charges you more than the actual price and when you try to confront them, they will just tell you that it's simply an error. Better be cautious with the bills.

Whenever we all friends are going together many of my friends are not checking it but I and one or two other guys have the habit of check it regularly. There might be some calculation mistake. Some of the orders may be not taken correctly. Some numbers might be increased and there are many other probabilities due to which we might have to pay more than what we have eaten and so Some of us are regularly checking bills.

most of the restaurants i've been here have prices included in their menus, so when you order you kinda have an idea how are you gonna pay at the end of the meal. when done, i just looked at the end of the bill for the charge, and if i think it doesnt match or not close to what was in my mind when we ordered, i check it carefully. but nothing like what you have experienced have ever happend to me. i do give tip if i find that they are courteous to their customers and they have served us well, but if not then why give tip, they have salary anyway.

Personally i always checked and read bills whenever i eat in the restaurant or any other store. Sometimes i look on the computer while the cashier is punching items when i do shopping. Making sure that items are not double punch same thing in a restaurant, i always read the bills to see if its correct. For me that's very important because you give your trust to them so it will disappointing if they over charge you. There is this once instance that happen, i read the story from a forum. He had the experience of always overcharged whenever he eats in this local restaurant without him knowing because he don't read and checked his bills. One time he eat again with his family. The son received the bill and read and found out that he's father was overcharged, that's the time he knows it was intentionally done by the cashier since she knows the customer won't always read bills. That's one experience that broke customer trust. So its very important to read bills because you know there are mistakes happen sometimes, either that is done intentionally or not.

I've never checked my bills in the restaurant, nor the bills in other places such as department store or supermarket. Because I never thought there's the possibility that they would overcharge me. lol But from your case I think I should start checking my bills sometimes. ^_^

Yup, its important to read bill and check it for any mistakes. I also experienced that one when I checked the bill, that there was this food that we didnt order. We were shocked because that food was the most expensive in their menu. hehehe So better check it out folks.:)

We seldom give tips in Guangzhou. Perhaps this is because they already charge us for the tea and the tissue. Sometimes I will check the bills, sometimes I will just glance at it but actually I don't count it at all. I just pretend that I am "careful" so that the restaurant will not make a mistake in my bill:) Especially the bills are printed by the machine, usually I won't count it because it must be correct:) I love China

Well I had encountered similar experience few years back.I never had the habit of reading bills in detail.I just use to see the amount and pay. Then,I got the lesson, once me and my friend we went to dine at one restaurant and we were over charged, charged for the food we didn't even ate.I came to realised this only when I got back home.Since then I make sure I go through every details like what I had ordered, the tax etc.Not only in restaurants but even in groceries and malls.Good day!

For me yes. I am fond of reading restaurant bills before paying it. You're right there were some restaurants sometimes overcharging your bills. Not just only in a restaurants but some other establishments where you are paying. I never forget giving tips to those people who extending their services to me. One of those are waiters. Aside from their service charge being added on your bill I still give tips specially if the waiter were so nice and really extending his best to make us satisfied...besides I was a former waiter and I knew the life of being a waiter...Happy mylotting..

I normally read my bills before handling to the server my payment just be sure if the food they charged was served to our table. I never leave in the restaurant without leaving a small amount as a tip even if that establishment have service charge. The lowest i can give is 5 pesos for small bill and unfriendly waiters/waitresses.

I read almost all bills unless they're too long, that include restaurant bills. I think it's rude to read it with full intense with they're looking, it's like we're not believing them. So I glimpse my bills so they won't notice I am really scanning for overcharge on something.
