And what's your point?

My partner and I were watching the news tonight, and an item came on about the ANC's win in the South African election, and my partner got all cynical about corruption in elections. All I could say was, "They're politicians. What's your point?" Do many of us here on MyLot share this view of the automatic corruptibility of politicians? And note, I am not specifying either side of politics, I am referring to all politicians of all parties. Lash

As the old joke rightfully goes: How do you know if a politician's lying? Their lips are moving! I've had the "pleasure" of working very closely with politicians behind the scenes leading up to elections etc and they're pretty much mostly a bunch of two-faced wankers with very little real desire to change the world in my opinion. The main issue being that those that DO have the right intentions are either shut down from the git go, or eventually end up corrupted in some way or another as well in due course. Expediency rules the roost with those idiots, nothing more, nothing less.

There are rare exceptions. Dr. Jim Cairns comes to mind, and since they couldn't stop him from the start and he refused to be corrupted, they set the morals police on him and tried to destroy him that way. Lash

Politician = Dishonest There was a survey, a few years ago now, that asked people how much faith they had in politicians, and divided it up into age groups. The younger the age group, the less trust they had in politicians. For the lowest age group (maybe started at age 18?) only something like 9% of the members had any faith in politicians.

I'm the other end of the age spectrum, and I only have about 9% faith in politicians lol. Lash

I think there are a few people at the upper end who still remember the odd honest politician, so haven't managed to entirely lose their faith yet. Although, as the survey was several years ago, that probably is no longer the case.

I have seen it locally: people who started out with honest ideals and campaigns and once elected will do anything to keep the power and the money. How much more is at stake globally?
