we had a cat give birth to some kittens under the house they are strays but i figured just let them be and put some food out for the mom. about 3 weeks went by and we could hear them right under the bathtub. no big deal. then we noticed we hadnt seen mom cat for 2 or 3 days and one kitten was just yelling and crying none stop all night long. we only heard one and we got worried. i sent the kids under the house the next day to see if they could get the kitten. look and see if there was more or if something was wrong etc. the kitten hadnt stopped yelling. as soon as they took the siding off the kitten came ruuning out at them. there was no sign of anymore either. we crought it in the house and fed it some milk that was a chore it had no clue of how to eat of course. i called the apca and they had me call the shelter. it took them 3 hours to get here. i didnt want to give it to them but we work and etc and there was no way we could care for it that and hubby doesnt do cats at all. he is ok with outside not really ours he thinks lol cats but not feed, take care of, inside, little box etc cats. when the lady got here fromthe shelter she told us they would put the kitten to sleep i was begging and so were the kids not to do that. just then mom cat came running down the street. i put the kitten down and walked away from it mom cat grabbed it and took off. the only thing we can figure is she forgot it until she heard it yelling. maybe she couldnt hear it yelling from under the house we dont know just glad she came back

If you ever have this issue again I'd suggest calling a non-kill shelter. More and more it seems like shelters are becoming non-kill for this exact reason. Why put down a you kitten who otherwise is healthy. Its kind of cruel if you ask me.

Wow, for me that was happy ending. I like your story, glad that Mom cat came back. I also have a mom cat that left her kittens in our house. Mom cat is our cat, one day she was out of the house, we don't know where she went. We all take care of the kittens as we are used to be doing. But one day Mom cat went home and feed her kittens.

I'm glad the Mother cat came back for the little kittne. I would not be able to hand it over to someone who might kill it. My sister and her friends run a network of cat rescue programs, so here in this area, if anyone wants a cat, or needs to find a new home for a cat, they are always there to help.

Mom cats often get locked in sheds and places where they were hunting and can't get free until someone lets them out. I bet that's what happened to this Mom, she would never forget her kitten and then days later remember, once she forgot the kitten she would not have come back.
