it is really sad the way shelters have had to become cause of funding over ran with pets etc. they only keep them an ave of 3-7 days now before they put them to sleep. with funding so low and the endless numbers they get i understand why they have to but it seems like if we changed the laws some that wouldnt be avoided. like all these people just getting animals and breeding them then selling them in the papers for 50-200 each . or these people breeding them then sitting infront of walmart selling them. if we made it where you couldnt breeed without buying a premit for it and make the premit expensive too that would help. i mean i know people that get animals like a weenie dog and a chawahwah how ever you spell it and breed them then sell the pups for 50 dollars and if they cant sell the pups they take them to the shelter and say they found them. that is just sad. then you have the ones in the country that just let them all run wild every where and they have litter after litter and then if they cant get rid of them they just leave them running. if they made it where people had to have them fixed to have a pet or buy a premit to let them breed it would be different. of course they need to lower the price of fixing them too. i bet there would be lots of vets that if you signed a waiver and paid for just the meds would sign up on a program to fix the animals for cost. i mean they could all volunteer one day a month to do it. there are enough vets that if they all did it or even half did it there would be no prob. i think though if you are going to sell puppies then you need to get a premit for it. it would keep alot of people from saying they are one breed when they are not too.

I have to agree. Actually, I think putting animals to sleep should outlawed. PERIOD! I mean animals are a part of nature just like we, the human race are. What if a more advanced race came along and decided that they need to control OUR population?... And then started putting US to sleep?... Somehow, I think the human race would suddenly CHANGE their views on animal control. Easymoney75503 has some very valid points. Plainly put, animals get put to sleep because of money and neglegent care and planning. Period. If the prices would lower on food, medical care, and over all care for pets and animals, then there would be no NEED to put ANY animal to sleep. It starts with US..the people...the ones who should care enough to DO something about it.

Why shouldnt there be a stimulus for shelters and a crisis bail out to help. They, the Government waste so much money and I would rather see the animals saved. I think they could do alot more.

Some area's already have spay & neuter clinics. We have several cats that have found our home. We've had the main male & both females fixed ( cost about $25)so they won't have any more. People just don't seem to understand how many surplus animals there are now. Stop breeding them for petes sakes! My 2 dogs are both from rescue & are both fixed.

I wouldn't blame the shelters. They already did the best the could and they need fund to run the place. I think the one that need to be blame are the cruel owners. They want pets, they have it, then they didn't know how to take care of it. It wouldn't cost much for injection (if they can't afford the operation) they prefer to let their pets breed, then throw them away when they grew tired of it.
