Hi, I have recently joined the freecycle network and I think it is awesome. Quite simply, you post a message offering an item you no longer want and someone comes along and takes it away!! All items are gifted, you can also post wanted items too!! Get rid of things you don't want & get things you do, for FREE!!!! There are rules though, which if you did join you'd need to check. I recently offered an tyre on a steel rim that was in our shed from a 4x4 we had, thinking no one would want it however same day it was collected by a very happy young man, he wanted as a spare!! I also posted a want ad for a little tikes playhouse, sure enough, I got one costing me nothing!! Freecycle came about to stop unwanted goods going into landfill sites. Are you a member?? What are your thoughts are giving away stuff?? Thanks Mrsl x x

It's a great way to clear out bits & pieces, like the odd box of tiles left over from tiling etc Have fun Mrsl x

Hi: I'm a moderator of the freecycle site in our area. I'm glad so many people enjoy it. Keep Freecycling.

Hi: Yes, it is an awesome site. A friend introduced me to it and I got hooked. I love garage sales and getting things for free so this is really the place to hang around. Yes, your right I am a volunteer, but it's an easy volunteer position. It's amazing the people you meet as moderator. I find that in the spring there's a lot more postings needed. So, I spend a little more time doing the work part of the site. I guess people are doing their spring cleaning.

I actually belong to a couple of Freecycle groups in our area, and Love them as well. We have been able to pick up quite a few nice things from Free food to Clothes, a Lamp, Paint, etc. I love to check from time to time to see who is offering what as well. And then I have given away quite a few things there as well and have someone coming and picking up some stuff tomorrow afternoon sometime as well.

I am a freecycling junkie lol, I have given away many things big and small and have also received many useful things. I talk about the site all the time. Once I was shocked my garage roof was leaking I put a wanted on freecycle for shingles and wouldn't you know it I got enough shingles to redo the whole roof saving me about 350 dollars. Amazing!

Wow, that is brilliant!! That is a great example of how good Freecycle can be. I'm shocked by peoples responses, both good & bad!! It is awesome & I too am becoming a "Freecycle Junkie"!! I'm now a member of 4 which cover my area and the surrounding!! Thanks Mrsl x x

I think it is a great concept- I have been a member for a couple years now. I do have to say, aside from finding some dressers back in the beginning- I have found nothing useful on it. People in my area post things like, "I have old cardboard VHS cases if anyone wants them." Or..I have an empty dog food bag if someone wants.... Seriously, it is an awesome concept, but i think those in my neck of the woods just don't get it...

I think from reading some the other response it does depend are where you are, how it's run & who is a member. I belong to 4 in my area and some are brilliant and there's 1 thats not great as everyone posts like you've described. Thanks for the post & I hope it gets better Mrsl x x

I love love love the freecycle network. It is like ebay only better. I love the fact that people are giving are sharing and helping each other. Last week, a woman freecycled me like 8 pairs of jeans!! I'm a mother of 4 so I really truly hate to buy myself anything because I always feel bad....you all probably know what I mean. She had posted that she had 4 pairs, but once I got there she said she found 4 more in the same size! It was great, I didn't have to go to the store and try on pants and get frustrated because they don't have my size and corral 4 small kids. It was AWESOME!!

I know exactly what you mean about feeling guilty when you spend money on you instead of the kids!! It amazes me what people give away! It is also comforting that it's a good way for members of the community to help each other out aswell as ditching stuff at the landfill! Thanks Mrsl x x

I do freecycle and have for awhile. I have recieved some great things from there. Sometimes I will ask for stuff and no one responds, but not a big deal. It is a great way to recycle while helping out people in your community. I have given away golf clubs that were left in our house by a previous owner, kids clothes, toys, books, movies all kind of stuff. I have never posted anything that didn't get a response.

I still can't get over what people actually give away!! It's nice to know people are recycling rather than throwing perfectly good things away! One mans junk is anothers treasure, as they say Thanks for the response Mrsl x x

I am a member but I haven't listed anything or taken anything yet. I have several things that I'm thinking about listing on their at some point to get rid of them. I just have so much stuff lying around that I cannot see any other way to get rid of it other than offering it for free on Freecycle. I hate clutter and I hate people that don't want to get rid of things so I'm working on slowly trying to get rid of whatever I can.

Yes, I love Freecycle. I was on the lookout for some garden toys for my daughter, browsed the emails and I quickly saw a message from somebody offering two nice plastic toys, and managed to get them a few days later. The lady even delivered them to my door! I've given away a pair of boots and a skirt which didn't fit me. It's a great way of giving away unwanted clothes to a good home (although they should obviously be in good condition!)

It is great & things do need to be in good condition, some things do need to see the landfill at some point!! Thanks for the response Mrsl x

I tried to join my local group but they're either horribly organised or run by a scumbag. They turned down my membership request, with no reason or anything. Lovely. So much for the community!!

i am a member too, but i got tired of it... as ive received emails, and many of them, making it as a wishlist... darn. it was supposed to be a site where you give something that you think can still be used by others. emails like this are what i received (something in this line).... anybody here who has an extra videocam? i need one preferrably working, huh? wth!!!??? and another member was asking for books, for charity purposes in their place, i replied i said i have plenty here, they can take it... and then after a week or two we found out, it was a fake, he was not just asking for old books, but other stuff too, he may have even asked for money to other people... and many other emails like that too, although not the same stuff. and more often than not, the mails i am receiving from freecycle are mails of members replying to each other... they're webposting to other members their replies to a specific post, what for? so i just dont go there anymore. it just really make me wonder why there are people like those... why cant they just follow simple rules. Post the thing that you want to give away... sorry for my rant, my experience there is just so irritating, i cant help post what i have experienced there.

It's a shame you've had a bad experience. I have joined a couple that cover my area and the surrounding area, I've found they all work a little differently. Some are maintain and run slightly better than others. I think it also has a huge bearing on who is a member. Thanks for the reponse, It's good to get 2 sides of the story Mrsl x x
