Uniforms?

How do you feel about wearing uniforms to work? Majority of the companies require their employees to wear uniforms for decency and unity. Besides the fact that wearing uniforms is economical as you get to use them for at least two years, you also don't have to worry about what to wear the next day. Some say, it's better to wear casual clothes to work as they are more comfortable and they could work more properly. What's your stand?

Well fortunately our company does not require us to wear uniforms. We tried that for sometime but eventually we returned back to our usual office attire and free using anything for as long as it is decent and professional. I do believe that when you work in uniform you somehow have economic benefits in it because you have to wear only one kind of dress for the whole week. But true after office you feel a little bit uneasy walking on your uniform already.

I am also uncomfortable in wearing uniform in the office. I think we should have uniform only if there is any economic benefits wearing it.

That's an added benefit on employees' part, why worry? It's part of company's expense, isn't it? We came to work for companies, so we better follow any rule that management may impose. If we cannot follow, we better look for another job that won't require us to use uniforms, or best, build our own company.

Personally, I would like wearing a uniform to work. I wouldn't have to worry about having the right kind of clothes or spending a lot of money on clothes. Everybody would look the same! I think as long as the uniforms were comfortable and looked decent, that they are the way to go!

I think it is okay to have dress codes, but I don't think that there should be uniform for work. I like the idea of having school uniforms during the schools. I also think uniforms are economical and people can wear then for at least two years. I also think people are more comfortable in wearing casual clothes.

hi nympha687, my profession is a assistance nurse for geriatric care. And I need to wear a uniform. I can choose by three different outfit. One blue dress, One blue dress of skirt and trousers, and one white dress of skirt and trousers. I use mostly the blu dress...during winter and the white dress during the summer time. How ever, the dresses we can wear is from a laundry, I would like to use dresses I like to choose on my own. But it is not aloud. The size is so strange in our uniforms and I feel uncomfortble in them sometimes...but, rules are rules...you just have to like it.

The requirement of uniforms is good in some ways. You don't have to spend a lot of money on different work clothes. Also, everyone has to dress the same. The only problem is how strict your uniforms can get. It limits individuality.

I work in a health-care setting and they require us and provide us with scrubs to wear. I actually prefer to wear this type of uniform. Scrubs are comfortable and easy to clean. I didn't mind wearing them before the company started to provide us with them. When the company I worked for decided they wanted us in certain colors, they started to buy us several sets a year, so that made things even easier.

It depends. I would totally be OK with "dressing up" to work but not necessarily wearing a uniform. I'd like that, because I love clothes and putting outfits together ANYWAY, and it would give myself an excuse to dress up and express myself. I think they're also nicer to be seen in than a uniform shirt or polo. But, the nice part about having a work uniform is that you don't really have to coordinate your outfit; you don't have to put much thought into anything. This works great for people who aren't necessarily obsessed with clothes & outfits like I am, and who don't really care about expressing themselves in the workplace. And as you said, you never have to worry about what you're going to wear the next day. I personally think that concept is a double-ended sword, considering it's both practical and boring to have to wear the same thing day after day. I would much rather be able to have a dress code rather than a uniform policy. I'd rather be able to wear "business-appropriate" clothes than have to wear the same uniform day in & day out.

My company doesn't have such a rule that the employers must wear uniforms. Although the uniforms are given out to every employ, we still have great freedom to wear the clothes we like. Most people prefer to wear the clothes they select from shops. The variety of clothes in style and color can strike people as freshness. They can bring the boring and nervous work novelty and refreshment. Especially, during the rest minutes, the clothing is always the focus of discussion. If somebody says to you "You look beautiful in this dress", I think you will feel happy the whole day. The changable clothing everyday can become a way to shorten the distance between human's minds. of course, it depends. In some governmental office, it is necessary to wear uniforms because they can show the professional responsibility. In some service industry, the employers are also required to wear uniforms because they are a kind of mark in service and can bring the convenience for customers and work more properly.

At work in my opinion, one should have independence of wearing clothes, it makes one feel more comfortable. Regarding the query of what to wear next day, i think this gets stablized by time. When you join new you bother, after sometime it gets into habbit.

We dont have a uniform but a dress code. Basic office attire. We can't wear shirts that are too low on the chest. We cant wear shorts that is higher then the knee. We can only wear jeans on fridays. So on so on. I think it just depends on what you do. I work in a office all day and personally i think what we wear is fine. In some places i think uniform is necessary though. Like for instance if you walk in a mcdonalds and everyone is wearing different things it may be hard to realize who works there and who doesn't. Also managers can identify who works there and who doesn't especially with ten new people starting one day or so.

I am in the military so I wear a uniform to work every day. I wish I could wear civillain clothes but I understand. Some people don't wear appropriate clothing to work. Uniforms fixes this problem.

its cool because you never get judged on what you wear you know how the world is now days lots of competition with the fashion world .uniforms seperates reality and puts your mind strictly to work which is a good thing, the only negative thing about uniforms is they are really uncomfortable

Personally I would prefer uniforms. In my previous employment, we all wear uniforms but now in my new employment - no uniforms. I was so used to wearing uniforms that when I start work for my current company, I was like 'what am I going to wear today'. Everyday I've to think about what to wear. My wardrobe is very limited so it's a struggle to mix & match. With uniforms, there's no need to think..:)

well i think that i agree to wearing uniforms at work if you really need to, because uniforms has its own purpose. you know, doctors, cops, firemen, etc. a uniform represents what we do so i think that we should wear uniforms. and it can be very handy at wash days. and you're right, we won't have to worry about what to wear the next day. but it's only my opinion!
