Having a Car without a Garage or Having a Garage without a Car

My neighborhood has no 'squatter' area even if it is not a first class village. I love this location because it is accessible to reach the necessities of our daily lives like wet market, supermarkets, hospitals, school, church, jogging lane, parks, malls, workplace and public transportation. Everything reachable by just walking. The only concern that I have noticed within this village is the illegal parking. Too much car too little parking slots. We have never thought of bringing our car in the metro because the apartment where we live at has no garage. We can't just park cars along the streets like other car owners are doing. But our neighbor owns more than 2 cars without considering decent garage where to park their cars. One neighbor is parking his car near our gate when he lives 4 streets away from ours. Roadsides are converted into longest parking lot that hampers good traffic flow. I need a transformer car instead :D

I prefer having a garage without a car. The garage can be converted into another room or working space while awaiting the arrival of a new car. Actually, we have a regulation that you can't own a car without a garage. But just like many of the laws we have in the country, it is never implemented. Whether you are in subdivisions or in not-so-affluent compounds, road parking is common. As previous responder have said, we have to act if we want this practice be eliminated in our area. The homeowners associations or the barangay councils should make it a rule that roads should not be used as parking lots. Also, MMDA and other concerned government agencies should implement existing road regulations strictly.

Thanks for commenting parallel to what I have thought. Having a garage without a car, a garage converted into a garden of potted plants and living room extension. In this way I have a green reason to express that I love clean air, nice environment too! MMDA's rule is to cleanup, clear up and seize illegals on the road like illegal vendors, illegal structures, illegal parking etc. Land Transportation Office's concerns are to fix the papers of car owner wannabes that as if they have their car garage to bring in their newly purchased cars whether old or new, brand new or second hands, tricycles or tracktor they don't really care for as long as you fall in line at the LTO and apply for a car registration. The under-the-table approval for car registration to those who owns no car garage or parking slots has been LTO's traditional practice, I think this is for life. It maybe not a new thing to us but we know it is illegal. The dumbest thing about the law is that it applies very well to the most of us but it seems to be inapplicable to Filipinos. We recreate our own law. Meaning we allow this to happen except MMDA. The Metro Gwapo way of making the metro look gwapo is messed up by our dumb law. The pedestrian will never be walking at the pedestrian alley but must be also on the road. The road is for pedestrian, cars and garbage. The sidewalks are converted as trade and vending platforms. The the Metro Gwapo patrols and condemns the illegally parked vehicles, but sad to say people say that it is anti-poor. Metro Gwapo's fight is still faulty just because we have a lot of dumb laws. Too much democracy, too little tolerance.

me, too. i prefer a house with garage even if its size is just enough for a tricycle. i want privacy and security. i live in an apartment with a small garage. i have not enough money to purchase my own home but if one day, i'd be able to buy a small lot, i'll build a 3-storey house wherein the first level is dedicated for a garage.

why dont you raise your concern to the homeowners association? that is if you have one. that issue wont be settled unless someone start to take action. if that problem continues, it will become a big hassle to any emergencies your area might encounter.. and cars will pile up. besides, you have the right of way. talk to the car owners who loves to park infront of your house and tell them how their cars bothers you. if they get angry instead of removing their cars, secretly scratch their cars at night or release the wheels air.. hehehe.. Just joking.. =) if one day, you or any one accidentally hit their cars, they dont have the right to sue anyone because they are parking illegally.. believe me, they will learn their lesson.

Well raising concerns to our community authority is easy. The concern response is prompted on very quickly but good for less than a week already and the habit of doing the violation is back to normal. In fairness to our lady barangay or community chairman she's doing her job well. I think the problem comes from the Land Transportation Office itself and the car buyers. Why should the LTO allow anyone individual to purchase vehicles when in fact they have space to park their huge possessions in. They even hardly hang-dry their laundry in their own house. I read about the Singapore law about owning a car. No parking/garage, No Car! In the Philippines this good law is considered a dumb law. Anyways, I'll try your advise. To deflate the tires :D

i only allow parking infront of our apartment if: it's for just a few minutes, like delivering or picking-up something. i immediately talk to owners whenever i see a car. if i allow just one person, everybody will start parking too.. yah, i hate those who dont hang-dry their clothes on their own place. some people keep on hanging their clothes at electrical wires, phone cables, etc..

You live in an apartment that doesn't have parking for residents? So where do You keep Your Car? And why do Your neighbours get to park outside your place without a warning or getting towed when you say they're doing it illegally? Are there no penalties or enforcement of this no parking Law? This sounds like a good place to live to be a bike owner!

Unfortunately, yes! This is an apartment that has no parking slot. This has space in front but car won't fit so the apartment owner ended up converting the suppose-to-be garage into a service area. Now we planted herbs and ornaments that looks attractive. There penalties under the law (all about vehicles, pedestrian etc.) but that we know is not enforced. So I'd rather not bring a car in the metro. I'll stick on to my legs to move me. :D

That is the same problem in the barangay where i live... it is a nice and safe place... but the streets have become a parking area at night and even during the day... the kids hardly have room to play aroung... i can't affort a car... but even if i can... i don't think i would buy one... since looking for a place to park it can be a huge challenge...

I agree with one of the responders here, he first thing you should is address this to the home owners association. you can't just allowed other people's car to simply park near your gate, then how can you get out of the gate if a car is in the way.you should asked your household members to build up a No parking or Don't block the Drive way sign near your gate. if that's not even understood, then ou can complain.
