I like foreign cars better too. It used to be I'd only buy American made cars, but anymore there's more to be said for something easy with fuel economy and affordability. It used to be too that American cars were actually made here, not having pieces parts farmed out to other countries, and there used to be more pride in workmanship. Now we've got cars made here that are constantly getting recall notices. I don't really have a suggestion for a brand of car, but I do think if I was getting another one I'd be checking it out online before actually signing on the dotted line. I can't remember the name of the website we used last time (carfax.com? or something???) It was really good that we checked out this one used car we were thinking of buying, it turned out to have been in a bad accident and there was a question if the frame was bent! Good luck there...it's hard buying a car: new OR used!!

My Husband thinks we should go to an Auction, but i was just talking to a manchanic and he said if It was him he wouldn't buy a car from an auction, because you don't know what you are getting. Well he is right but it is the same if you go to a Car lot.

Man, I would be really scared to get a car at an auction...used furniture yeh, but a car?! I would think you wouldn't really know what you were getting because it's not like you could take it for a test drive or have a mechanic check it out first. Just a hint...when I doated my van to charity, they said they didn't care whether the frame was bad, or that it didn't run because they were selling it at auction. It brought a few thousand dollars to the charity, and I couldn't even use it as a trade in and get $200 for it lol. Guess that's why I'm on the skeptical side about buying cars at auctions, you just never know what you're getting. (The benefit to me for giving it to charity, and why I went that route, was that whatever they got for it I could take that amount off my taxes as a charitable donation.)

I heard that Toyotas and Nissans are quite good. If you go to a Toyota dealer, you might get a good used car there. I heard that they are very economical and the Japanese have always made good cars because they live in a small country and they have to import their gasoline so they want to get as much mileage from their cars as possible.

In my country, all along we've been buying and using Japanese cars which are most popular. Due to the economic downturn, many have switched to the more economical and cheaper Korean cars and cars from China. It was only a year or two ago that American cars like Chevorlet and Chrysler appeared on the roads. Ford is well known here but not so popular. Do you get Chinese and Korean cars in your city?

I've owned three toyotas in my lifetime and have loved all of them. I currently have a RAV4, which I love. I used it in my move from Massachusetts to Oklahoma. It gets resonably good mileage, is fun to drive, and in the 7 years that I've owned it, I've never had any trouble with it. It's handy for going to yard sales too. When looking for a used car, consider a one month enrollment in carfax.com You enter the VIN number of a vehicle that you are looking at and it will provide you with the history of the car. Any accident that was reported through police records or insurance claims will be listed, as well as previous owners. You certainly don't want to buy a car that's ever been totalled, right?
