harrassment

We are having an issue with telephone harrassment by a family member's ex-boyfriend. He keeps calling and hanging up, sometimes cursing at whoever answers the phone, and just keeps our phone ringing throughout day and night. By Texas law this is illegal and a crime. The problem is when we called the police to make a report, the policeman said there's nothing they can do and told us to change our phone number. From what I understand we are supposed to be able to file a police report and tell the cop that we want to press charges and if he is found guilty he can receive up to 6 months in jail or a $1,000 fine. So why is the officer saying there's nothing that can be done? Is this a case of police officer ignorance? Does anyone know what can be done about this? How do we file charges? Should I call the police again and demand that he file an official police report and say I want to file charges? We've never had to file charges for anything so I'm not sure how this all works.

I am not sure how in Texas it works but I would try to have his number blocked. Then I might change it. I would send him a cease and desist letter telling him to stop or he will be taken to court for harrasment. I would of course have it notorized and keep a copy of it. I would also put a recorder on the phone. Each time I answered I would let him know up front he was being taped. Then I would got to court for a restraining order if he presisted.

I already blocked the land lines he uses, but we can't block cell phones so he is using his cell phone. He continues to call us to this day. I need to know how we are supposed to go about filing charges of harassment. I will definitely look into a cease and desist letter.

I think to keep him off your back for good, you should try asking a lawyer about any legal action you can take against him. Try going to bidsfromlawyers.com, post your case online then wait for lawyers to review your case and then bid on it. Hope this helps, it's a good site.

you can call the phone conpany and ask them to block that particular phone number. i dont know if it costs anything, but it may be worth a try.
