Loss of Job

United States

Well I am now official with thousands of others in the lost the job market. The company I worked for has layed off gradual over the last 9 months 20 people. I am number 19. Social services used to be an area that you would never dream of position loss and no raises for years-benefit cuts etc. Well when the State of Florida had the brillant idea of taking the Foster care system-Child Welfare out of the State's hands and let private little agency move from providing services to maanging how service happens. Making foster care-Child welfare a business rather than a service is what I mean-then all hell broke loose and well........... Families who were once served by an overworked system are now not served at all or minimally served as the funded has been cut cut cut or spread so thin over too many agencies that services for a family (the children within the family too) are moving towards non existent. But I ramble - I am just unemployed with 25 years of experience and a Masters degree. Schools can;t hire too many cuts Agency can't hire not enough funding So were are the jobs? I guess medical is the growing field so I can take the wasted 25 years (with little to no retirement to show for it- take out loans again I guess to fund a medical career switch and become something medical Hmmmmm Go for another 10 years and go for the big bucks I will be 55 years old in 10 years with a medical school degree if I can swing the same stanima of grueling study and working full time. or go 2 years get a certificate and start as a beginner in a new field of medical assistant for a whooping 22,000.00 a year- Imagine 48 and earning about what I was earning with a bachelors degree and no experience more than 20 years ago. Maybe I shoud have labeled this - THE ECONOMY SUCKS and I want to be paid more for my work experience and the 10 years of college I already did in my 20's. Wha Wha Wha Enough-more later

O Dear sorry to hear all your bad news .. Dont forget all those private agencys need good experienced and qualified people , look for the biggest ones and you could get a good deal .The same thing happened here in U.K. a few years ago most of our foster care is now private , I think co ordinators still work for the SSD . Do you have social work agencies over there .. I signed on with one for my last 3 years before I retired and earned some really good money . With all your experience and good qualification you will soon be taking your pick of the best jobs , once you are over the initial shock you could turn this to your favour ... GOOD LUCK , let us know how you get on *
