Just curious... I have just begun training for my first 5K. I will be racing the end of June and can now easily run (more like jog) 1.45. Any ideas how an old person like me can enhance training? (I am 48 yrs young btw) Any input is appreciated!!

I know this is an older discussion and you've already run that 5K now, but I saw there were no responses and I always feel bad seeing no responses on a discussion since so many of mine go unnoticed. In case anyone else reads this thread for tips, I did mostly track workouts of interval training to get my race pace for the 5K. I also did a bit of hill training and trail running too, but mostly interval training. Currently I'm doing a lot of hill training since I'm thinking about running a 3 mile trail race in the hills near the end of August. But it depends on how rocky the trail is, since I don't actually have trail shoes.

Hey, thanks for the response, even if it was out of pity!! lol!! I have actually run two 5Ks to date. I have another one scheduled for August. I improved my time on the second one by almost a minute. I am still terribly slow though! Perhaps because of my age. I ran 5 miles this morning for just a fun run. It was great! I am hoping to increase my stamina. I also pushed and worked on speed this week and have also added some cross training to my schedule. (Biking) I would love to do a trail run. There is no way to train as of yet! ..not where I am anyway... but I will one day!!!

You are very motivational! I think I will do that run in August then if you're doing so many. I just hope it isn't so rocky that I would need new shoes for it. I'll have to go check it out next week. In September there are now 2 different 5K races I really want to do. But as both are on the same day at the same time, I can only do one.
