You can check out your Processor and fan if there is some dust over there. Otherwise there might be a lot of temporary files and browser cookies which are also making performance difference. Take these steps. Type temp %temp% prefetch One by one and delete all files in each of the three folders. Even delete complete browsing history of all the browsers you have. Disable unwanted Startup items using msconfig in run commands Hope these things are really helpful and it improves your system performance.

we just had that same problem. it made me realize that the computer is just like the human body: you put too much in it it gives you problems in the long run . two things were the culprit: the downloads that we put in the computer such as the numerous tracking softwares that's supposed to monitor the computer's performance for online money making vetures. also, my techie husband removed the other fan from the computer (there were two) since he long doubted that this is doing more harm than good then he reformatted the computer. all is fine now.

It sounds like you have a system memory problem. Try downloading Ccleaner and runing it. It cleans out your junk files and frees up space. this should solve your problem. http://www.ccleaner.com/

I've had a similar problem, and it was partly the fan, partly the hard drive. By cleaning out the fan regularly, I was able to keep my computer running much longer, but an old computer is an old computer, and if it's infested with viruses (like mine was) eventually it will just crap out on you anyway. If you think it's just your fan, I would suggest going to Best Buy or a computer place, they can just spray some compressed air in the fan and it will be fine. Good luck!

i noticed that windows did that alot on my personal laptop, but i noticed alot about ubuntu. My fan hardly ever runs too hard now unless i get on a site that uses alot of javascript or flash scripts then it starts running. ubuntu is really light and flexible, it can do anything windows can do and more. It gets my tasks done on a daily basis without too many issues. It may not be your cup of tea, but it is okay with me! :) :)

I had a fan go out on my laptop last year. The laptop is almost ten years old. If your fan is not working right, you usually won't hear it. I found that my computer really ran slow because I was not updating microsoft windows on a regular basis, running my anti-virus programs, anti-spyware programs, or my anti-adaware programs. Also I was not defragmenting or cleaning my discs. It's like I have a whole new computer now that I do weekly maintenance on it. If it is a fan problem, they are relatively cheap to replace but without the cooling of the fan you can end up ruining major parts of the computer.

you may have insufficient RAM. if you have less than 1GB, then it may run slow after long periods of time. you should try restarting often. another solution is to buy more RAM if your motherboard can be installed with more

You should also to a check disk and that will delete some stuff and clean up some unnecessary things on your computer. Also if you haven't cleaned out the inside of your computer modem just take one of the sides off and just gently dust out the inside of it and it will start to run faster and if you don't know how to take the sides off just get a q-tip and put it to the fan and clean the blades off at least.

yes the fan can do this, if the processor gets too hot, it can slow down and even shut down. But the first thing I would do is to shut it down and restart, sometimes programs (especially games) will eat up system memory even after they are shutdown. So try rebooting first, if that doesn't work then run your virus and spyware programs... spyware can really slow down a computer as well (this will also clean up any cookies or junk filse)
