Why do hackers sabotage websites?

I remember when the movie Superman Returns was launched, they had a website that was promoting the movie. I think on my second visit to the site, that was after a duration of a week, to check the production updates, was greeted by a hacked version of the site, which was accompanied by a virus. It took me forever to get rid of the 'filthy thing'. Finally I had to resort to formatting my PC.

I agree with you, but these hackers can even outsmart the latest anti-virus and anti spyware software's, and our only hope is to constantly update our database to counter these hackers.
