About our fellow American citizens in Mexico.

I was in a discussion about the swine flu and a thought came upon me. If we did close the border to Mexico, what would all the American citizens that are there do? Do we leave them there? Would that be caring for our citizens? Do you think our government would have the attitude that they don't want them to come back until this is over? Do we close all our borders? Hypothetically, if I was stuck in Mexico and really want to get back to the states, I could take a flight to somewhere else then into the US right? I believe it is too late to close the borders to make a difference, but like I said, the thought crossed my mind, and I was wondering what all my fabulous mylotter family thought about it.

That's nice of you to think about that. I'm a gringo, and have a different twist on that. I'm in Laredo Texas and live with my family in Monterrey Mexico. But I'm stuck here until next week. I'm missing my family at this time and it's a real crisis there now! I'm afraid they might not let me go home! Although I really don't think they will close the border, people that don't live around here really don't understand what it's like here, and closing the border would cause harm to the USA and Mexico, it's a global economy and people don't understand the effects of shutting it down it would be more catastrophic than the flu itself, I'm serious. I have a small store there and the business is down %90, we also have a small hamburger stand, we sell at night, usually we sell 40 to 60 a night. Last night they sold 6 the night before they sold 5. This is sad! tdemex

I am glad that you pointed out the other side of things. I guess I just thought that everyone would want to go the opposite way. I can certainly see your side of things. If I was stuck here and my family was stuck there, i would be very anxious about their condition. I am sure they are taking all precautions, but if it were I, I would rather be there with them. I guess it would be a piece of mind thing for me.
