Why are you there.....?

This seems weird when somebody asks you all of a sudden - "Why are you there, living and kicking, have you done anything worthwhile as yet, anything; not for you but for others and for the society to prove your being as you are?"
This is a serious question indeed. As answer to this question I can tell that I am doing certain thing for the society through different activities?
Now throwing the same to you - what about you? Have you done anything for the people or the community or why are you there? To live to eat or eat to live and doing nothing?
Please share.

Hi again Rajib...You arent going to get me on this one either..Im sure soon you will find one to stump me that I cant answer.
I think I have done lots of worthwhile things in my life. My career was as a home nursing assistant. I visited many people daily in their homes to provide care that would enable either sick or elderly or disabled people to live as comfortably as possible in their own homes. Without the services of people like me, many would end up forgotton and uncared for or shipped off to a nursing home where they didnt want to be in their old age.
I have cared for every age group from babies to old timers. I have received much pleasure in the compliments and thanks from the people who were grateful to see me daily. There expressions and thanks were a big part of my pay.

HI Sands, yes again,
No way I do hands my up
. Never knew before this facet of yours. Now got the chance to know people with some discussions like this one. This way, believe me, I have learnt the mind and actions of many people. What happens that they vent out the long pent up things and my sort of discussion works like a system through which they are out.
I really ban not but appreciating you and feeling great as well that such a person is my friend. Yes, had there been 10 people like you in a given community life would have been hell worth living. Kudos ny friend!!!!!

Rajib-
Dear friend, what a great topic! I think that there are many here in the US currently complaining about everything going wrong, who need to ask themselves this very question. I posed something similar when I stated last month for each person to help their neighbor. That's the quickest way for every person on this planet to be helped. Does that make sense? So, for me, I do a great deal around our local community, and in our apartment complex.
Why am I on earth? I'm on earth to continue my spiritual journey, and I know I've had many incarnations, so I'm working in this life to learn those life lessons that need to be learned, and help others achieve enlightenment.

Hi anora,
Very reflective answer indeed, I too am into this thinking that as we are there here we have surely something vested on us. But ironically most of us do not see it and indulge in other material pursuit.
Thanks a lot for the response.

I'm here to be apart of the collective amount of variables that inevitably make the world the way it is (just like everyone else). What people don't realize is that this is a rather serious and amazing thing to have been born into. Common and instantaneously uncommon, or not.

Hi Rajib, This is a great idea for a discussion and should get us all thinking. We can all do something for the community in which we live, even small things help. I have been a community volunteer for most of my life and am still involved as chair of our local library Board. I have also served on the town council and in other volunteer positions, but there are other simpler ways of helping. Volunteering at a hospital or visiting with seniors is helpful to both parties as is helping out at soup kitchens and shelters for the homeless. If we can't do anything else we can always greet people with a smile. Blessings.

Hi Rajib! We have all come on the earth with one purpose I think ,i.e to self realization.Once we realize that we are a part of the huge universe we start working for its betterment. We start seeing our fellowbeings as we see ourselves.I have taken so much from the earth and it is my duty to return something. The best way I think is by planting trees and looking after it.It grows to give shade and fruits and becomes a home for many birds and insects.
I try to teach poor children and help them with their studies.

hi dada!
you've put me in dilemma... i don't know how much i have done and how much not but for sure whatever i have done is not bad. i have not done anything for the society as such but for people who come across to me i don't hurt them. i try to give happiness to others even if i am not happy.
i would love to do something for the community.

Hi sis,
You need not make a Tajmahal nor the great Wall of China but the tiny things you are doing are sufficient to prove your worth I guess. For me there should not be some regret in the twilight of your life that this life was totally a useless one. You know better small things too do count.
Thanks for sharing and take care.

There's nothing that says we have to live our lives a certain way. We live them as we choose, but I'm one who chooses to be a key figure in the community, and to help others. I led a campaign to keep our last pub in the village open when it was threatened with closure. I started a committee and we had a lot of followers, eventually succeeding to keep open the one, remaining social place in the village, open. I do a lot of work for charity, and have staged a few events, such as a John O'Groats to Lands End exercise bike ride, a Quest for the Bolney Grail, a marathon darts match for McMillan's Nurses, and even staged a party where I asked not to be given gifts but rather, money for a children's hospice charity, which I support vehemently. I run the local darts team and am secretary of the local darts league. I could go on, but I don't normally boast what I've done... I just do it as a way of life, and then put it behind me. I don't need thanks for these things, but rather gain satisfaction that I've done something good and useful with my life.
Brightest Blessings.

I'd like to say that I'm here to be the kind of mother that my children can be proud of. I pray that I am the kind of wife that my husband needs to fulfill his emotional as well as physical needs. I try to be the kind of Christian that walks the way Christ would want me to walk. To help those who are less fortunate than me. To listen to those who need an ear to hear, and to love my friends more than myself.

Hi there,
Your mission of life undoubtedly invites applause. Small or big that is not a big deal what is important is the commitment.
Thanks for the response.

Hi Rajib!
I don't think I have done anything specific for the community except to abide by the rules of society throughout my life. I have brought up my son to think and act within the rules of life too.
I am a shoulder for friends and offer advice when needed if I feel I can advise through my own experience. I have never given monetary donations but I have avoided begging too. I don't ask for anything more than my health for myself so I hope in this way I am not a burden to society.
Is this helping as a whole?

Hi Diana,
This is more than what can be expected of a person who is not an out and out committed to the people kinda. That you have shouldered your son in the right direction and have been a soft voice for those who are grief stricken and a piece of advice here and there is what that count too.
After all one can not be what makes it to be like Obama nor is expected of all.
Thanks a lot.

That's what I meant. I am so much happier to be in the shadows doing my bit. Everything counts!
Whether what he is doing will be positive I feel is too soon to tell. History will be the judge of that

I am here for a reason, although I don't know what it is yet. I raised two wonderful sons who will be an asset to their communities when they graduate college. I help the stray cats here, I support my church financially and in turn they do a lot of good for the community. I pay my way by donating to various veterans' charities and the local Salvation Army. I pick trash off my street. It doesn't seem like much when I write it out, does it? If it wasn't so painful to be on my feet I would do some hospital volunteer work.

Hello,
I have no doubt about the credulity of your action. Though you have not told me either in the written form nor in voice but all these days' interaction here has created a picture of your being what you are. All the things that you have mentioned are more than enough to register an acknowledgement that you are too much for others than for your own.
salud.
Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi krajibg! I have always wondered the answer to this question
since a was a little girl! I always wondered why am I here?
And I am still not completely sure to this very day! I have
helped people throughout my life so I am sure that there must
have been a purpose at times for me to be here on this earth.
I worked in the medical field and I want to go back to work
in the medical field again if I can. I have helped some very
sick neighbors too. I took care of them when they have no
on around to help them. As for a particular reason that I am
here, that is something only God knows!

hi Opal,
You do or not do anything bit goodwill itself is a kind of service and that is enough. And that you have already served so many times for human cause. Surely al can not be saints and all selfless.
Thanks for the response.

Well rajib I am a mother so there's an important reason for me to be here! I have lent a hand when it was needed along with a shoulder for those who despaired and I like to think my smile may be a comfort to someone at a crucial time.
I sponsor a little girl from Uganda. She and her family lived in appalling conditions and she did not even go to school until our sponsorship. Now she attends school and she and family are moving forward. We keep in touch with her and we correspond regularly.
I hope my presence in this world makes a difference; I would like to think so.

Hello Paula,
Thats great. Even bringing up the children in the true direction itself is a service that counts. Now you have plunged rather and that is a great mission I dare say. If I can bring a smile to one's almost withered face what happiness I meed more to add to my existence to make it worthwhile and you have done exactly the same.
This is more than expected of people especially therese days.
Congratulation Paula.

Hello my friend krajibg Ji,
Well, as you have admitted yourself, it looks weired. But , it does carry deep meaning
in itself. After all, if we could not do, what we have come to this world, what is the
good living for. Everyone must perform something which would help society and humanity
as a whole. So you are in teaching line, I was and am house-wife. My hubby was a soldier
During his time (1956-93), country never faced to look down. So what I feel, everyone should
account for his acts, before one departs.
May god bless You and have a great time.

I am guessing here that you are asking of the myLot community "what is your purpose in life?" I have determined that my purpose is to bring beauty into the world.
