Unfortunately you can't monetize a free wordpress blog, which I would imagine is not what you want to hear.
You basically have a choice, either move your content over to blogger which you can monetize but lacks some of the cool features which wordpress offers. Or look into hosting your own blog through the likes of godaddy. By doing this you can actually install the wordpress software on your host and import all your posts. But more importantly when you move from wordpress free to hosted you are allowed to monetize your site.
Which you choose depends on how serious you are about blogging. If you think that maybe it will be a passing trend then go to blogger as it costs nothing. But if you are determined to make money from your blog and are willing to work hard to do it then look at getting a hosted blog.
