I know what you all are thinking. I spend way to much time involved with my little coconut i cant help it. shes so important to me. now, today i was watching her eat one of those hard little pressed bones made by waggin tails. i noticed that she mostly holds things with her left paw and chews mostly on her left side. she uses her left paw to reach under stuff to dig out from under the couch etc, so im wondering if anyone ever done a study about if animals can be left "handed"? yes. i know i got to much time on my hands Have you noticed if your pet uses one paw more than the other? aww, come on now, theres been dumber discussions than this.

I haven't really given it any thought about whether my boy sammy is right or left pawed. I have seen him use both though. I know when the door is not shut all the way he has used his left paw to open it more.

I know people that don't like animals think people like us that love and care for our pets are silly but they don't ask for anything but love do they.My dog uses her left paw more to.She shakes hands with me with her left paw.and when she gets on me it is her left paw first.

i noticed my male cat always washes his left side of the face and always uses his left paw. i never see him washing his right side of the face. i joke around that he is left-handed. who knows. how about give your pet a series of tests to see which paw he/she prefers to use to do different things. and see what the majority is.

Hey bunny! Now that you mentioned it I will have to watch Star and Luna more closely to see which paw they stick in their dishes when they want to take their food out! I have never paid attention to which paw they use! What a terrible mother I am! I don't think that you have too much time on your hands! I think you are a wonderful doggy mom! I am the one who isn't paying enought attention to my babies! Shame on me! Now I will have to watch them more closely so I can find our if they are left pawed or right pawed! I am so upset with myself!

I have noticed that my cat uses his right paw more then the other one. So maybe that means he is right handed. Contrary to your belief that this is a dumb discussion I bett it is has been researched by researchers wanting to know the same thing.. so not so stupid as you might think.

hmm...I don't know about that. I've never noticed it. I will have to start watching my Baby Girl and see if she seems to favor one paw over the other. We took her to Petco today to get one of those pads to pull the loose fur off because she'd been shedding horribly. I ended up getting her some doggy cookies too. She loves the ones with Strawberry creme inside.

i bunnybon7, Awwwwww, that is so sweet, its amazing what you can discover about your pets jut by studying them, my two cats are both right handed and when I throw a little bottle top or little top from tooth paste, my Tom would catch it with his two paws, he is clever like that. Hugs. Tamara

That's not a dumb question at all! It's very observant to even notice something like that. When I get Tukay a beef pizzle stick, she usually holds it with both hands. When she's playing with her toys, I've noticed that she uses her left hand most of the time. Maybe she's a southpaw too.

thats what i mean i think perhaps animals are like us in that way. they favor one paw to do things with.

I couldn't resist this one! Um - in my case, Billy usually knocks me over to get to whatever he's after - I don't have time to look at his paws!

It makes me happy to hear that you love her so much! Because i love pets myself, and recently i moved away from my house and haven't seen my Gorian for 4 months now :( I miss him so much, but at least i know that he's being well taken care of by my mom. Back into topic, hmm i haven't really noticed if he uses his right or left paw more.. i always thought that he uses both equally? xD I could be mistaken though, gotta remember to ask my mom next time i call her. Happy MyLotting

i currently have three cats and have found that they use their left paw more often than not. when playing with a toy or opening doors they may use both but with one pawwed activities they tend to use their left first. Maybe pets such as dogs and cats are the opposite of humans in that they tend to be lefties more often
