I had a tooth pulled today. That bugger has been giving my trouble since before Easter. Now I have this big hole there and wondered. How long will it be there? How long till the hole closes up?
Have you had a tooth pulled before and how long did it take for the gumm to heal?

hi kprofgames,
I got a friend who is a Dental student and i just phoned him reading your discussion how much time it takes for q wound to heal after tooth extraction and he like he is appearing in an exam gave me a lenghty reply which i forgot most of and more than 80% of it i couldnot understand but what i did i say here
1) which one was tooth. If it is single root one it would heal earlier
2) did it required bone removal
3) did it break while taking out
4) was it previously treated for root canal
5) What is your age
6) Do you suffer from any deblitating disease like diabetes.
7) Then some others reasons can be there which he called dry socket which i did not understand
So he said if it didnt require any surgery or bone cutting and if you do not have any disease like diabetes it should heal with in less than a week and your socket should cover with in 2 to 3 weeks.

asweetie a dry socket means you loosened the blood clot and now you will have pain like you have never had before. so the moral is dont have a dry socket. leave the blood clot to dissolveon its own, dont remove it.otherwise air gets to tooth nerves and the result is unbelievable pain like I felt when I inadvertantly dislodged the blood clot.

I'm not sure exactly how long it takes but a small clot should form in the hole and you should leave it alone. The clot will help it to close. Try to avoid swishing anything around in your mouth except for warm water with salt in it which will also help it to heal.

Thank you and have been doing that. I know the mouth is the fastest to heal on our bodies, but gettins sick of the soft foods.

Just be patient with it. Sometimes it takes longer than usual to heal. If you get a great deal of pain you should consult your dentist.

hi kprofgames yes I had a wisdom tooth pulled and the dentist
forgot to tell me not to dislodge the blood clot that formed,I am only telling you so you will never make the same error.I loosened
it with my tongue, and oh my,I have never had such pain since even in two childbirths. So I went back and he then told me I should not have disturbed that blood clot.so he put in some sort of salve and the pain did stop, almost at once.I think it took almost a week but it did heal pretty fast.

I've had dry socket before and I agree there isn't any pain that is comparable. I think I'd rather break my hand. I did have a dry socket from this tooth being pulled. I actually had another tooth pulled since but I kept the packing in for 3 days instead of taking it out right away. Leason learned but you now, they COULD have told me to leave the packing in for a few days

Hi Kprofgames,
Getting a tooth pulled is not a nice experience and only those who get it pulled knows how bad it is. Now about the healing of the wound you get from the tooth extraction depends upon many factors.
1) is it front tooth or rear tooth
2) what is your age
3)Do you follow instructions your dentist gave you like no spitting or hot applications or take lots of cold things.
4) do you suffer from any debilitating disease like Diabetes Mellitus.
If your age is ok and you are not suffering from blood sugar or any blood disorder and you follow your dentist instructions then i think in one week your hole should be filled if not totally then most of it and you would start feeling comfortable in couple of days.
