Well, friends, please help me out. I don't know what is wi-fi and how it is used to access the internet. Is it something related to USB data card or something like bluetooth? What is wi-fi's advantage?

Wi-Fi stands for Wireless LAN.
If you have wireless LAN enabled in your systems then you can access internet wherever you want.
There are many places where wifi is enabled and there you can access internet free of cost.
It is basically a region or zone where internet is accessible mostly big malls, airports, big colleges, and even big commercial offices.

Hi there!
The term wi-fi is a synonym, a word referring to Wireless LAN. It operates similar to how cellphone works, that is the power to connect without wire or cables. Just like bluetooth.
The advantage of Wi-fi is that the ability to connect at longer distances or wider area. Most laptops have built-in Wi-fi adapters so people can connect wherever they are as long as there is a signal.
I'm not an internet buff but this is what I know about Wi-Fi. Hope that helps.
Ciao!
